The Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court
has legalized same-sex marriage. Other jurisdictions have
entered the fray by issuing marriage licenses to same-sex
couples, many of which have been officially invalidated. Several
States and the Federal government have laws prohibiting the
recognition of such marriages, and others are considering
such actions. Meanwhile, more and more employers offer benefits
to their employees' "domestic partners," some limited
to same-sex couples but others available to opposite-sex couples
in committed relationships. This program will explore various
employee benefits issues that arise as a result of these developments.
Topics Include:
- Same-Sex Marriage in MassachusettsWhat are the
Rules & What are Employers Doing?
- State and Federal Tax Issues of Massachusetts Same-Sex
Marriages
- Are there Benefits that Cannot Be Provided to Same-Sex
Spouses?
|
- Taxation Issues for Domestic Partner Benefits
- Can Employers Give "Spousal" Rights to
Same-Sex Spouses or Domestic Partners
- Future of the Federal Defense of Marriage Act
