The April 14, 2004 date for small group
health plans to comply with the HIPAA medical privacy rules
is rapidly approaching. Even though large group health plans
were supposed to be compliant by April of this year, a number
of thorny issues are still unresolved and additional guidance
by the Department of Health and Human Services on many of
these topics does not appear to be forthcoming.
So what should small group health plans do to get ready?
And what's the latest thinking on some of the compliance issues
still confounding larger group health plans? In a roundtable
format, a panel of experienced practitioners who advise employers
and other plan sponsors, group health plans, and providers
will discuss approaches to several key issues, drawing on
the lessons learned from working with their large group health
plan clients on compliance.
Topics:
- Responsibilities of Fully-Insured Plans
- Negotiating Business Associate Contracts
- Carrying Out Participant Assistance Activities
- Structure and Use of Authorizations
- Developing Reasonable Privacy Policies and Procedures
|
- Distinguishing Between PHI and Employment Information
- Operational Issues, Such as Running Well-ness Programs,
Complying with the New Security Rules and Guarding
Against Fraud
- Impact of Privacy Regulations on Mergers and Acquisitions
