The Section of Individual Rights and Responsibilities will hold its 2003 Annual Meeting on Friday, August 8, during the American Bar Association's Annual Meeting in San Francisco, California. The meeting will begin at 1:00 P.M. in the California West Room on the second floor of the Westin St. Francis Hotel. The agenda includes the election of 2003-2004 officers and Council members.

This year's Chair-Elect, Joan F. Kessler of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, automatically succeeds to the position of Section Chair for 2003-2004. Members attending the Section Annual Meeting will elect individuals to serve as Chair-Elect, Vice-Chair, and Secretary (all one-year terms) and in five Section Council seats (four three-year terms; one unexpired term).

The 2003 Section Nominating Committee (consisting of Chair Marna S. Tucker and Paul M. Igasaki, Estelle H. Rogers, Robert E. Stein, and Walter H. White Jr.) has proposed the following slate of candidates for 2003-2004:

Chair-Elect: Stephen F. Hanlon, Washington, D.C.

Vice-Chair: John D. Podesta, Washington, D.C.

Secretary: Paul M. Igasaki, Alexandria, Virginia

Three-Year Council Positions: Gloria J. Browne-Marshall, New York, New York; Harlan A. Loeb, Chicago, Illinois; Richard J. Podell, Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Neal R. Sonnett, Miami, Florida

One-Year Unexpired Term: Richard M. Macias, Los Angeles, California

Under the Section's bylaws, any Section member may make additional nominations for these positions by submitting a written statement of nomination signed by one other member in addition to the member being nominated. Such a nomination must be received by current Section Chair Mark David Agrast or current Secretary John D. Podesta at least six hours before the election. Nominations will not be accepted from the floor at the time of the election.

The Section Council is scheduled to meet from 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. on Friday, August 8, and from 9:00 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. on Saturday, August 9, in the St. Francis Suite East Room on the twelfth floor of the Westin St. Francis Hotel. Council sessions are open to all members. Please contact the Section office (tel. 202/662-1030) with any questions.
