Section Election Set at ABA Annual Meeting
The Section of Individual Rights and Responsibilities will hold its
2003 Annual Meeting on Friday, August 8, during the American Bar Association's
Annual Meeting in San Francisco, California. The meeting will begin
at 1:00 P.M. in the California West Room on the second floor of the
Westin St. Francis Hotel. The agenda includes the election of 2003-2004
officers and Council members.
This year's Chair-Elect, Joan F. Kessler of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, automatically
succeeds to the position of Section Chair for 2003-2004. Members attending
the Section Annual Meeting will elect individuals to serve as Chair-Elect,
Vice-Chair, and Secretary (all one-year terms) and in five Section Council
seats (four three-year terms; one unexpired term).
The 2003 Section Nominating Committee (consisting of Chair Marna S.
Tucker and Paul M. Igasaki, Estelle H. Rogers, Robert E. Stein, and
Walter H. White Jr.) has proposed the following slate of candidates
for 2003-2004:
Chair-Elect: Stephen F. Hanlon, Washington, D.C.
Vice-Chair: John D. Podesta, Washington, D.C.
Secretary: Paul M. Igasaki, Alexandria, Virginia
Three-Year Council Positions: Gloria J. Browne-Marshall, New York,
New York; Harlan A. Loeb, Chicago, Illinois; Richard J. Podell, Milwaukee,
Wisconsin; Neal R. Sonnett, Miami, Florida
One-Year Unexpired Term: Richard M. Macias, Los Angeles, California
Under the Section's bylaws, any Section member may make additional
nominations for these positions by submitting a written statement of
nomination signed by one other member in addition to the member being
nominated. Such a nomination must be received by current Section Chair
Mark David Agrast or current Secretary John D. Podesta at least six
hours before the election. Nominations will not be accepted from the
floor at the time of the election.
The Section Council is scheduled to meet from 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.
on Friday, August 8, and from 9:00 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. on Saturday, August
9, in the St. Francis Suite East Room on the twelfth floor of the Westin
St. Francis Hotel. Council sessions are open to all members. Please
