Making a unanimous decision, members of the four-judge-panel described the first place essay, written by Kyle LaLonde (George Washington University 2003), as: "Beautifully written;" "ambitious," "scholarly," and "everything you would hope for from a promising law student." As part of the first place prize, Boston College Environmental Affairs Law Review will publish the thirty page, 215 footnote, article in its first 2004 volume. Mr. LaLonde also received a check for $1000.00. The first and second runner-up papers also received high praise from the judges. The judges noted that first runner-up Irene Choi's (New York University 2004) essay showed "originality of thought and clarity of expression." Second runner-up Jocelyn A. Stotts' (George Washington University 2004) essay was recognized for its "excellent use of language and sources." Both the first and second runner-up received $500.00 and their essays are published in this edition of the Committee newsletter.
