Public Safety and Homeland Security in Indian Country
Saturday, August 11
2:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Moscone Center West, Room 3024

The panel will address a number of issues which have created a significant crisis in effective law enforcement on Indian reservations, including the rise of illegal drug traffic, an absence of resources to support the law enforcement activities of Indian tribal governments, new federal laws and policies responsive to threats to homeland security, including the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative and the recently enacted federal statute permitting the Secretary of Homeland Security to waive any legal requirement interfering with border security, and jurisdictional issues undermining public safety.
