Experience
Lisa J. Savitt is Of Counsel in Akerman Senterfitt's Washington, D.C. office and is a member of the Litigation and Global Practice Groups. She previously was a partner at Blank Rome LLP where she focused her practice on international litigation. She has experience representing foreign and domestic companies in matters involving complex legal, regulatory and technical issues in state and federal courts including multi-party complex products liability, tort cases, intellectual property and trademark matters and commercial disputes. Ms. Savitt started her career at the Federal Aviation Administration, Regional Counsel’s Office and worked for three years at Beaumont & Son in London.

Ms. Savitt is currently the Membership Officer of the American Bar Association Section of International Law and a member of the Council of the Section of International Law. She is a former President and founding member of the International Aviation Womens Association. She was also a member of a high-level delegation of the American Bar Association International Legal Exchange Program briefing trip to London and Paris for an international alternative dispute resolution symposium.

Notable Client Work

  • Defended UK aerospace bearing manufacturer in complex product liability action in federal court in Texas arising out of helicopter crash in Gulf of Mexico resulting in manufacturer paying nominal settlement
  • Successfully converted $24 million foreign judgment of shipping company against Yugoslavian bank into U.S. judgment, dealt with enforcement of judgment issues including application OFAC sanctions, and handled attempts by Yugoslavian bank to transfer assets from the United States in U.S. Bankruptcy Court ancillary proceeding
  • Represented several companies in claims against software vendors for breach of contract and breach of warranty arising out of licensing agreements and successfully expanded remedies available for such claims
  • Assisted U.S. aviation company in obtaining clearances from Transportation Security Administration and Department of Justice for foreign pilots for contract valued at over $10 million
