International IPR Advisory Program
The ABA Section of International Law is working with the U.S. Department of Commerce and the Coalition Against Counterfeiting and Piracy on an International Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Advisory Program that allows American small and medium size enterprises (SMEs) to receive a free, one-hour consultation with an experienced volunteer attorney regarding the protection of its intellectual property rights (IPR) in Brazil, Russia, India, China, Egypt, or Thailand. The program will assist SMEs to protect their trademarks and other intellectual property and to advise them on what to do with the concrete problems that have arisen.
The International IPR Advisory Program seeks to:
- Assist American businesses to understand the steps they must take to develop an intellectual property protection strategy for foreign markets;
- Help U.S. companies facing IPR disputes abroad pursue resolution to their problems; and
- Reinforce the message that it is essential for U.S. companies to take action to enforce their IPR in accordance with foreign civil, administrative and criminal laws, and that failing to act can have devastating consequences for future business.
Attorneys with experience advising clients on the risks facing their intellectual property from doing business in Brazil, Russia, India, China, Egypt or Thailand, or on enforcing intellectual property rights in those countries, are invited to add their names to the referral list. Interested attorneys can click here to register.
To request a complimentary one-hour consultation with a volunteer attorney, please click here. Take note that this is not a referral service, and attorneys will be matched based on their area of expertise, rather than on location. For general information from the U.S. government on protecting and enforcing IPR abroad, please visit www.stopfakes.gov.
