ABA-UNDP International Legal Resource Center, Registration Form

How to Register

1. Requirements
Legal experts interested in registering with the ILRC for consideration for positions in UNDP governance programs are expected to meet the following requirements:

  • Sufficient academic credentials, such as a J.D., LL.M., Ph.D., or an equivalent advanced degree
  • Substantial work experience, preferably more than five years in relevant fields
  • Adequate working knowledge of at least one of the following languages: Arabic, Chinese, French, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish
  • Strong personal commitment to building local capacity and capabilities.
For long-term resident advisor positions (those lasting for periods of six months or longer) experts are expected to meet additional requirements:

  • Demonstrated capability to work in partnership with other individuals and institutions, and adaptability to difficult living conditions
  • Satisfactory personal interview by ILRC staff and/or ILRC Steering Committee members.
2. Registration Procedure
The ILRC invites all interested and qualified legal experts to fill out a registration form in order to be included in the ILRC expert database.

The ILRC will confirm receipt of each registration form either through email or postcard within three business days from the date the form is received. The ILRC staff will review each registration carefully and enter all relevant information into the expert database. The expert is also requested at this time to submit a copy of his or her Curriculum Vitae (CV) by e-mail in order to select the best candidates for each position. Each time a request for legal expertise is received from a UNDP Country Office, the ILRC will search the expert database for a qualified expert that meets the Terms of Reference. The selection process for legal expert positions may also include telephone or personal interviews as well as reference and background checks and completion of conflict of interest disclosure forms.

The ILRC aims to provide a minimum two to three candidates for each position requested by UNDP Country Offices. The final selection decision for a particular position will be made by the respective UNDP Country Office.

The UNDP Country Office and/or its authorized executing agency will contact the selected advisor or workshop participant directly before entering into a formal UNDP service contract with the selected individual. The UNDP Country Office and/or its executing agency will provide pre-departure and in-country logistical support as determined and agreed (insurance, transportation, housing, etc.).

3. Entitlements
The legal experts provided through the ILRC are primarily pro bono professionals who, in return for their services, may receive the following expenses from UNDP:
  • International travel
  • Per Diem allowance to cover basic needs, including housing, meals and incidentals
  • Long-term advisors may negotiate additional compensation depending upon each particular project, which may include an honorarium and life, health, and disability insurance coverage.
