These guidelines describe the
proper conduct and prohibited uses of Section of International
Law (Section) Listserves. The Section may change these guidelines
at any time, and such changes will be effective as of the date
stated below. By using any of the Section's Listserves, you agree
to abide by these guidelines as modified from time to time:
1. Be extremely judicious in your
use of the "reply to all" function on messages sent
through Section Listserves. Circumstances when the "reply
to all" button should not be used include, but are not limited
to, personal questions, ABA or Section policy questions or any
other circumstance where receipt of a message would be unwelcome.
2. No distribution of any program,
publication or event-related items. All such announcements must
be submitted to Section staff for distribution.
3. Only make relevant postings.
Do not make postings that are off-topic according to the Listserve's
focus.
4. Personal invective will not
be tolerated.
5. Do not post an entire e-mail
only to add a short response.
6. Do not use the Listserves as
a method of advocating a client's position.
7. Do not post the same or similar
message to multiple Section Listserves.
8. Do not forward personal email
to the entire Listserve without the express permission of the
email's author.
9. The Listserve may only be used
for lawful purposes. The following nonexhaustive list details
the kinds of prohibited conduct:
- Distribute through the Listserve
any message, data, information, text or other material ("Content")
that is unlawful, libelous, defamatory, obscene, pornographic,
indecent, lewd, harassing, threatening, harmful, invasive of
privacy or publicity rights, abusive, inflammatory or otherwise
injurious to third parties;
- Distribute any Content that
would constitute or encourage a criminal offense, violate the
rights of any party, or that would otherwise create liability
or violate any local, state, national, or international law
or regulation;
- Upload any Content that may
infringe any intellectual property or proprietary right of any
party;
- Impersonate any person or entity
or otherwise misrepresent your affiliation with a person or
entity or interfere with other users of the Listserve;
- Distribute through the Listserve
any Content such as charity requests, petitions for signatures,
other solicitations of Listserve users, promotional materials,
chain letters or letters relating to pyramid schemes, advertising
or solicitations for funds, political campaigning, mass mailings,
any form of unsolicited commercial or promotional email ("spam")
or an offering of lawful or fraudulent goods, services, schemes
or promotions; and/or
- Knowingly disseminate harmful
content including without limitation, viruses, Trojan horses,
worms, time bombs, zombies, cancelbots, or any other computer
programming routines that may damage, interfere with, surreptitiously
intercept or expropriate any system, program, data or personal
information.
Notwithstanding anything to the
contrary, the Section reserves the right, but does not assume
the obligation, to investigate any violation of these guidelines.
Section leaders or staff may terminate a user's participation
in one or more Section Listserves at any time for any reason,
including, but not limited to, violations of these guidelines.
