Letter from The Chair

I invite you to join me for a taste of the days gone by at the Jersey shore at Bally’s in Atlantic City, August 6-7 prior to the ABA Annual Meeting in New York City over the dates of August 7-12.  Bally’s is conveniently located with America’s most famous address, Park Place and the Boardwalk, and is only few short blocks from shopping, restaurants and tons of recreational activities.

Both the Leadership Retreat and the ABA Annual Meeting are two extremely important meetings for the Section as we will be celebrating 130 Years serving as the Gateway to International Law and Practice!  I encourage you to make plans to attend both the leadership retreat and the Annual Meeting and be an active participant in charting the course for the Section’s future activities and programs.  At the retreat, we will go over the Section’s new Strategic Plan and your role in its implementation over the next three years.   The retreat will provide you with the opportunity to network with your Section leader colleagues and build strong partnerships in accomplishment of the Plan’s goals.

We are organizing some enjoyable events such as a reception and dinner at the charming Atlantic City Country Club on Wednesday, August 6th.  For those golf lovers, you will be surprised to learn that this country club is most famous for being the birthplace of the terms “Birdie” and “Eagle!”  (Transportation will be provided)

I look forward to seeing you at both the Retreat and Annual Meeting in August.

Sincerely,

Jeffrey B. Golden

We are very pleased to be serving as Co-Chairs of this year’s Leadership Retreat at  Bally’s in Atlantic City, August 6-7th prior to the ABA Annual Meeting in New York City August 7-12 and to welcome you.  Bally’s is on the beach with America’s most famous address, Park Place and the Boardwalk (for you monopoly lovers).  We hope you will join us and discover Atlantic City and all it has to offer - great shopping, restaurants and recreational activities.

For those of you who are new, we also want to welcome you to leadership in the Section of International Law, and all that it has to offer.  In addition to the great CLE programs that all our Section members enjoy, leadership provides you with added networking opportunities and a way to become more engaged in the international legal community through both policy initiatives and interaction with other bar leaders around the world.  For those of you who have served as leaders in past years, as well, welcome back.  We hope that the approach taken at this year’s retreat will give you new insights into your role and the Section.

During this retreat you will meet the Section’s other leadership and participate, with the assistance of a prominent facilitator, in productive workshops to help you make the most of your leadership role.  We have also organized some enjoyable events such as a reception and dinner at the charming Atlantic City Country Club on Wednesday, August 6th.  For those golf lovers, you will be surprised to learn that this country club is most famous for being the birthplace of the terms “Birdie” and “Eagle!”  (Transportation will be provided).  The awards luncheon will be on the beach so don’t forget your sunglasses!

We look forward to seeing you at both the Retreat and Annual Meeting in August!
