Half-Day Tours
Philadelphia Museum of Art / Rodin Museum
Wednesday, June 26, 1:30 - 5:30 p.m. Ticket price: $40. Guests will be transported to the renowned Philadelphia Museum of Art, where they will be given an introductory guided tour to include a full range of fine and applied arts from Asia, Europe, and the U.S. spanning over 2,000 years. The collections include masterpieces of painting, sculpture, prints, and drawings, as well as a wide range of furniture, silver, glasswork, architectural elements, and entire furnished rooms from historic houses. In addition, a stop will be made a the beautiful Rodin Museum which houses the greatest collection of works (outside of Paris) by Auguste Rodin, sculptor of perhaps the most famous sculpture in the world, The Thinker. The museum contains some of Rodin’s greatest figures including the Burghers of Calais, Adam, Eve, and John the Baptist.
Historic Philadelphia Walking Tour
Thursday, June 27, 9:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Ticket price: $30. Guests will be transported by motorcoach from the hotel just a few blocks away, but back in time more than 200 years, to the birthplace of the nation. The guided walking tour will include Independence Hall where the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution were signed, the Liberty Bell, Carpenter’s Hall, Liberty Museum and Franklin Court. By motorcoach the group will also visit the Betsy Ross House, charming Elfreth’s Alley (the oldest continuously occupied residential street in America), and quaint Society Hill with its many beautifully restored colonial homes.
Maritime Tour: Independence Seaport Museum, Cruiser USS Olympia and Battleship USS New Jersey
Friday, June 28, 1:00 - 5:15 p.m. Ticket price: $50. The tour takes visitors to the Philadelphia waterfront, where they will tour the Independence Seaport Museum, which is dedicated to exploring the maritime history of the Delaware River, Bay, and tributaries. At the Seaport Museum guests will also tour the historic Cruiser USS Olympia (CA-6), the last surviving battleship of the Spanish-American War, and perhaps the most famous, having served as the flagship of Admiral Dewey in the Battle of Manila Bay. It also had a prominent role in transporting the remains of the first Unknown Soldier home after World War I. Guests will then take the RiverLink Ferry across the Delaware River to the New Jersey side, home of the USS New Jersey (BB-62)— one of the most famous and decorated battleships in US history. Commissioned in WWII, this Iowa-class behemoth of a battleship served in every US war until its final decommissioning in 1991. Wear comfortable shoes and dress casually—there are many ladders to climb and hatchways to go through on both ships. Note: the USS New Jersey tour takes 90 minutes and there are no restroom facilities onboard the ship for public use once the tour has begun. There are restroom facilities in the gift shop on the shore outside the ship.
The Barnes Foundation
Saturday, June 29, 9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Ticket price: $35. The Barnes Foundation houses one of the world’s finest private collections of Post Impressionist and early French Modern Art. Only a total of 500 very fortunate people may visit this world-renowned art collection each week. The collection is housed as no other in the world, with a history like no other in the world. Mixed in with approximately 800 works of art including 180 paintings by Renoir, 69 by Cezanne, 60 by Matisse, and works by Picasso, Modigliani, Rousseau and many of the Masters, are examples of iron work of German craftsmen, African sculpture, and antique furniture. These were all permanently arranged by Dr. Albert C. Barnes to illustrate a specific concept in art. Surrounding the Foundation is an arboretum of extraordinary variety.
Full Day Tours with Lunch
Longwood Gardens, Brandywine Battlefield and Museum and lunch at Chadd’s Ford Inn
Thursday, June 27, 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Ticket price: $85. Located in the museum-rich Brandywine Valley, Longwood Gardens features 1,050 outdoor acres, 20 indoor gardens and 11,000 different varieties of plants. Guests will view the seasonal highlights of the gardens and enjoy the glass-enclosed conservatories, always in bloom. The outdoor gardens include the Flower Garden, the Italian Water Garden, the Main and Fountain Garden, the Eye of the Water, the Waterfall and the Chimes Tower. A stop for lunch is made at the famous Chadd’s Ford Inn, housed in a charming colonial building in the heart of "Wyeth country". Then the tour will continue on to the Brandywine Battlefield Park that brings to life the largest engagement of the American Revolutionary War, fought on September 11, 1777 between the Continental Army, led by George Washington, and the British forces headed by General William Howe.
Winterthur Gardens, Hagley Museum and lunch at Brantwyn: The duPont Dynasty
Friday, June 28, 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Ticket price: $95. The tour will travel through "Chateau Country", past the estates of the duPont Dynasty to Winterthur Gardens, the palatial home of Henry Francis duPont. Four generations of duPonts lovingly cared for this country estate that today combines art, history, beauty and learning. In 1929, H.F. duPont added a nine-story wing on the downhill side of the house to display a growing collection of the furnishings made in the US prior to 1860. The museum contains an unrivaled collection of early American decorative arts (1640-1860) displayed in period settings, and a matchless 20th century naturalistic garden. A stop for lunch is made at the former residence of the duPont family, Brantwyn. The name is derived from the word Brandywine and honors the fast flowing river that powered the mills to which the duPont family owed their prosperity in the New World. The home reflects the family’s Old World heritage, rich in the arts of gracious living and entertaining. Guests will be served an elegant three-course lunch amidst the splendor of the family estate. Leaving Brantwyn, the tour continues to the Hagley Museum, home to one of the area’s renowned outdoor museums and the site of the birthplace of the duPont Company. Mills, millraces, a workers’ community, gardens and the first duPont home in the New World are among the historic treasures. The specialized library at the Hagley Museum is known to scholars around the world for its collection of original manuscripts, rare books and pamphlets.
On-Your-Own Atlantic City Excursion Bus
Sunday, June 30, 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Ticket price: $35. A chartered bus will be provided, departing the hotel at 9:00 a.m., for the one and a half hour ride to the fabled Boardwalk of Atlantic City. Guests will be taken to one of the famous casinos along the Boardwalk. Here they will be given vouchers for bonus coins to be used at the casino. Other casinos will be in walking distance. Some guests may prefer to walk the Boardwalk. Guests will have a three-hour time period that is your own once in Atlantic City. Lunch is also on your own. The bus will board again at 1:30 p.m. for the return trip to Philadelphia. Guests are requested to rendezvous at the pickup point at that time. The bus will arrive back at the Loews Philadelphia Hotel at 3:00 p.m.
Tournaments and Activities
Golf Tournament with box lunch— Ramblewood Country Club
Saturday, June 29, 10:45 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Ticket price: $120. The traditional and much-heralded Summer IPL Conference Golf Tournament will be offered this year at Ramblewood Country Club in Mt. Laurel, NJ. Ramblewood offers a renowned and challenging 27-hole Championship golf course. The three nine-hole courses will put the woods and irons to the crucial test among long driving fairways and smooth putting greens, set among 220 plush green acres. Tournament participants will be transported by motorcoach to Ramblewood, 45 minutes from downtown Philadelphia. Tournament entry fee includes box luncheon, non-alcoholic beverages, round trip motorcoach transportation, green fees, cart rental, tournament scoring and prizes. The tournament bus will board at the Loews Philadelphia Hotel at 10:45 a.m., with departure for Ramblewood at 11:00 a.m. sharp. Tee-off will be at 12:15 p.m. Club rentals must be indicated at time of registration. Ramblewood does not allow metal spikes.
Tennis Tournament— Cherry Hill Health and Racquet Club
Saturday, June 29, 11:45 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Ticket price: $50. As with the Golf Tournament, this Summer IPL Conference Tennis Tournament tradition is a must for all tennis aficionados. Competitors will be transported by motorcoach to the Cherry Hill Health and Racquet Club, in Cherry Hill, NJ, a 35-minute ride from downtown Philadelphia. Founded in 1970, Cherry Hill boasts one of the largest clubs on the east coast, with 15 indoor tennis courts and 6 outdoor tennis courts. The club has received national and regional recognition for its top rated tennis program and instruction. The tournament bus will board at the Loews Philadelphia Hotel at 11:45 a.m., with departure at 12:00 noon, to arrive at Cherry Hill to allow time for warm-ups. The tournament promises to be a fun outing for tennis players of all levels. Tournament entry fee includes court fees, beverages, prizes and transportation. Players should eat lunch on their own prior to the tournament.
Section Cycling Tour—Schuylkill River Trail— (Cycling levels C+, C, and D)
Saturday, June 29, 1:00 – 5:15 p.m. Ticket price: $40. Shuttle boards at Loews Hotel at 12:45 p.m. for a 1:00 p.m. departure. As an alternative to the competitive tournaments, a group cycling event will be offered for those who seek a fun, scenic, physical activity. Guests will be shuttled from the hotel to Boat House Row on the Schuylkill River. Here, they will pick up their pre-rented bicycles and helmets, and begin their ride, with accompanying ride guides. The Schuylkill River Trail extends from downtown Philadelphia at the Philadelphia Art Museum all the way to Valley Forge. In Philadelphia, the trail uses Fairmount Park trails and the Manayunk Canal Tow Path. The trail is paved except for the tow path. The trail runs through a landscape that varies from parkland to suburban neighborhoods to heavy industrial sites (see www.montcopa.org/parks/schuylkillrivertrail.htm). Rides of three different lengths/abilities will be supported: a 14 mile "D" ride to Manayunk; a 26 mile "C" ride to Spring Mill; and a 40 mile "C+" ride to Valley Forge, time permitting. The ticket price includes shuttle service between the hotel and the bicycle pickup area, bicycle rental, helmet, and trail guides. Initial water and snacks provided. (Space limited.)
