Early Registration

Register online, or complete the form in the PDF version of the brochure and mail to: 22nd Annual Intellectual Property Law Conference, Section of Intellectual Property Law, American Bar Association, 321 N. Clark St., Chicago, IL 60610. If paying by credit card, you may also fax your form to 312-988-6800. Attendees are strongly encouraged to use the online registration system.

The deadline for receipt of early registration, at the early registration rate is Wednesday, March 28, 2007. Registration will only be accepted when accompanied by a credit card number (Visa, MasterCard or American Express only). Checks, money orders, or governmnet purchase orders or training forms may also be used when submitting a printed copy of the registration form via mail. No registration can be held without payment.

Onsite Registration

Registration and check-in will be available onsite from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 11. All registrants are invited to check-in early and avoid the Thursday morning rush. In addition to early check-in, a special program will be presented by the Law Practice Management Section on Technology Tips for Your Practice. This special session is presented for all registrants interested in gaining valuable information about how to use technology to work for them. A short cocktail reception will also be held in conjunction with the Law Practice Management session on Wednesday evening.

Onsite registration will also be available beginning at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, April 12. A busy morning registration rush in anticipated on Thursday morning, April 11, so check-in on Wednesday, April 11 is encouraged.

Onsite registrations will be accepted only when accompanied by a credit card (Visa, MasterCard or American Express only), check, money order, or government purchase order or training form. Late registration fees will be in effect for onsite registrations.

Cancellation Policy

Registrants who are unable to attend the conference will receive a refun less a $100 administrative fee if a written cancellation is received by March 28, 2007. Cancellation requests should be faxed to 312-988-6800. A $50 administrative fee will be withheld from registrants in the Corporate Counsel, Law Student, and Government and Public Sector fee categories. No refunds will be granted after March 28, 2007. Vouchers for future programs will not be provided. Proxy substitutions are acceptable. The ABA reserves the right to cancel any program and assumes no responsibility for personal expenses.

CLE Credit

CLE accreditation will be requested for this Conference from every state with mandatory continuing education requirements for lawyers. Please be aware that each state has its own rules and regulations, including its definition of “CLE.” Check with your state agency for confirmation of this program’s approval. Attendees requesting credit for the program must sign the attendance roster onsite at the program. New York attorneys must sign in and sign out each time they enter or leave the program room, and complete the special New York certificate of attendance at the end of the program and have it signed by ABA authorized personnel.

You may contact the ABA Service Center toll free at 800-285-2221 or the program coordinator at 312-988-6268 within two weeks of the start of the program for confirmation of the number of CLE credit hours requested by the ABA or credit approved by any particular state.

Location and Lodging

Note: The hotel room block cutoff date at the Crystal Gateway Marriott Hotel has passed, and the hotel is booked full. If you still need to find accommodations for the conference, please see the attached list of nearby alternative hotels that you may try.

The 22nd Annual Intellectual Property Law Conference will be held at the Crystal Gateway Marriott Hotel, 1700 Jefferson Davis Highway, Arlington, Virginia. The ABA group rate is $190.00 single/double occupancy. All rooms are subject to a 10.25% Virginia State Sales Tax. Note: The cutoff date for the room block is Monday, March 19, 2007. But do not wait until the March 19 cutoff date, as the room block fills up quickly. After this date, reservations can be made on a space available basis only. The ABA will not be able to secure a room for you.

Transportation

You are encouraged to make your airline reservations on the ABA Online Travel site where you automatically receive ABA airfare discounts from a variety of carriers.

Committee Meetings

There will be an opportunity for Section committees to meet during the 22nd Annual Intellectual Property Law Conference. All conference attendees will be welcome to stop by and participate in any committee meeting in which they have an interest, and to join a committee. All members of committees scheduled at the conference are urged to attend and participate in their own meeting and the entire conference program. Among those committee meetings planned to-date, the Industrial Design Committee will discuss “The Geneva Act Treaty Operation and U.S. Ramifications” on Thursday, April 12, 1:45 – 3:15 p.m. The Special Committee on Promotions and Marketing Law will meet on Friday, April 13, 8:00 – 9:00 a.m. Watch the Section web site for details on other committee meetings scheduled, and plan to participate in the meetings of your choice.

Special One-Day Practical Tips Program

A special one-day CLE program, Practical Tips on Intellectual Property Law, will be held at the Crystal Gateway Marriott Hotel on Wednesday, April 11, 2007, on the day preceding the beginning of the 22nd Annual Intellectual Property Law Conference.

This program provides a background on patent and trademark law for new partcitioners in IP law practice in light of current developments in the field. A special guest luncheon speaker will be featured during the luncheon at this program.

Separate registration is required for the Practical Tips on Intellectual Property Law program. For information and registration, visit the website at www.abanet.org/intelprop, or e-mail us at . This program will offer 6.0 hours of CLE credit.

Teleconference CLE Credit Available

For those unable to attend the 22nd Annual Intellectual Property Law Conference in person, selected sessions will be made available via live teleconference.

See the program schedule for the day, time and topic information. Registrants for teleconference sessions will be eligible for CLE credit in those states that allow for teleconference credit. Instructions on downloading course materials and dialing in to the program will be provided in a confirmation letter upon registration.

Course Materials
available on CD-ROM

Course materials are produced in CD-ROM format and made available for pickup at the conference. A limited number of printed course material sets will be available for an additional fee to those who request this in advance on the registration form. Materials will also be posted on the Section website, available for viewing by conference registrants in advance of the conference.

Special Tuition Assistance

A limited number of registration fee reductions are available for government employees, academics, law students, and public interest lawyers employed with nonprofit organizations. No full tuition waivers are available. The fee-reductions will be determined on a one-time only, case-by-case, first-come first-serve basis. To apply, send a letter outlining the basis for your request of a fee-reduction to Betsi Roach, Section Director, ABA Section of Intellectual Property Law, 321 N. Clark St., Chicago, IL 60610. Deadline for receipt: March 5, 2007. No cases will be considered after the deadline, and all standard registration fee rates will apply after March 5, 2007.

Cyber Cafe

During the 22nd Annual Intellectual Property Law Conference, a Cyber Café will be available to participants. This Cyber Café will be located in the main registration area and will feature a number of laptop computers connected to the Internet for those who wish to check e-mails or search the Internet. High spped laser printers will also be available so participants will be able to print portions of the course materials in CD-ROM.
