“Confessions of a Counterfeit Enforcement Junkie”
J. Thomas Warlick, Assistant General Counsel, Motorsports Authentics,
Charlotte , NC 

Tommy Warlick will speak on the establishment of a multi-faceted counterfeit enforcement program, from the racetrack to the courtroom, and discuss real-world successes and challenges in catching counterfeiters in the world today.

Tommy Warlick became General Counsel for Motorsports Authentics in Charlotte, North Carolina in January 2006. He was formerly Assistant General Counsel with NASCAR, where his responsibilities covered all aspects of IP, licensing, and advertising (particularly trademark and copyright), and in a variety of mediums (TV, radio, and Internet in particular). As NASCAR's growing popularity has been accompanied by a burgeoning counterfeit merchandise industry, his duties also entailed work in enforcement and anti-counterfeiting. Prior to joining NASCAR he was in private practice in Nashville, Chicago, and Charlotte NC.

“Working with and for In-House Counsel: The Secrets ”
Oliver C. Mitchell, Jr., Chairman, Dealer Policy Board, Ford Motor Company, Detroit, MI

Oliver C. Mitchell, Jr. is Chairman of Ford Motor Company’s Dealer Policy Board. Founded in 1956, the Dealer Policy Board exists to address and resolve disputes between Ford Motor Company and any of its Ford, Lincoln or Mercury brand dealers.

Mr. Mitchell previously was an Assistant General Counsel at Ford. He also served as Ford's chief labor and employer lawyer. He has practiced law for nearly twenty-five years, and is a member of the bars of Massachusetts and Michigan. He received his undergraduate degree at Cornell University and his law degree from Suffolk University Law School. He has served the public as an Assistant United States Attorney for the District of Massachusetts, as First Assistant District Attorney for Hampden County Massachusetts, and as a member of the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority.

 

Special One-Day Program:

Practical Tips on Intellectual Property Law

A separate one-day program, Practical Tips on Intellectual Property Law, will be held at the Crystal Gateway Marriott Hotel on Wednesday, April 5, 2006, on the day before the 21st Annual Intellectual Property Law Conference.

This program provides a background patent and trademark law information for new practitioners in IP law practice in light of current developments in the field.

The special guest luncheon speaker at this one-day program is Sean Carter, “Humorist at Law”, author of a weekly syndicated legal humor column entitled “Lawpsided.” Lawpsided has been published in newspapers in 30 states and on many web sites.
