This year's Annual Dinner will be held on Saturday, June 24, following the cocktail reception hosted by Charles River Associates Incorporated. As in past years, the Section invites all to a special evening of refreshments, food, entertainment and a chance to be with old friends, as well as to meet new ones, for our last evening in Boston. Special entertainment will be provided in the form of a frolicking rock and roll musical revue with Vince Vance and the Valiants. Following dinner, for those who would rather talk than dance, we have arranged for a nearby "quiet room" provided with comfortable seating and background piano music. (business attire)

Behind Closed Doors - Inside the Homes of Beacon Hill

This exclusive tour will take you into the Old World charm of the Boston blue bloods such as the Astors, the Cabots, Oliver Wendell Holmes, Louisa May Alcott, Edwin Booth and Julia Ward Howe. The tour will offer a rare opportunity to visit Beacon Hill's very special private homes, one of which will be opening especially for the ABA visitors. The tour will also include a stop at the gold-domed State House atop Beacon Hill, built in 1795, which is a shining example of the best in neoclassical architecture, combining Georgian and Federal features.

Cambridge Tour with Charles River Cruise

This tour will feature a walk through Harvard Square, full of vibrant intellectual and cultural life, Harvard Yard, Wadsworth House, George Washington's first headquarters as commander of the Continental Army; Longfellow House, Tory Row, and the Harvard President's House. The tour also includes a boat tour on the Charles River, where you can get a spectacular view of the Boston skyline and of Cambridge, and the famous crew boats that ply the river.

Heart of the Freedom Trail/Boston Historical Walking Tour

No trip to Boston is complete without a tour of the famous Revolutionary War historical sites. And there is no way to see these sites other than to put on your walking shoes and take the Freedom Trail Walking Tour. The tour will include such famous sites as the Boston Common, the State House, the Granary Burial Ground (resting place of such notaries as Sam Adams, Paul Revere and John Hancock), the Old South Meeting House (site of the Boston Massacre), Fanueil Hall, Paul Revere's House, and the Old North Church.

Fenway Park/Fleet Center Boston Professional Sports Venue Tour

This tour takes sports fans to historic Fenway Park, one of the last of the old-time major league ballparks, for what may be a last chance to visit the history before the park is replaced by a planned new stadium. Fans will be able to experience the dugout, and look out at the "Green Monster" in left field. Then it's on to the new FleetCenter Boston, which replaced the old Boston Garden as home to NHL's Boston Bruins and NBA's Boston Celtics. The Sports Museum of New England at the FleetCenter Boston features ongoing exhibits charting the history and legends of sports, including "Ted Williams: An American Hero", and tributes to the 75th anniversary of the Bruins.

Plymouth/Cape Cod Adventure

This tour starts with a visit to historic Plymouth, site of New England's first colony in 1620. You will have an opportunity to see the famed Plymouth Rock, and the replica Mayflower II, Coles Hill, and statues and monuments commemorating those first Pilgrims. From here the tour will continue to Cape Cod Canal and Sandwich, the oldest town on the Cape, dating back to 1637, and the world-renowned Sandwich Glass Museum. You will enjoy lunch at a charming restaurant on Cape Cod. Following lunch, the tour will continue on through the cranberry country of Massachusetts, and the quaint section of the Olde Cape. The tour will pass through the town of Hyannis, and then you will board a summer touring vessel for a cruise around Lewis Bay, from which you will be able to see the shoreline, including splendid views of the Kennedy Compound.

Historic Salem and Marblehead: Coastal Gems of the North Shore

Travel back in time to Salem, the home of the infamous witch trials of the 1690's. In addition to witch trial sites, visit the Peabody Essex Museum, the oldest maritime museum in America, housing fine and decorative art and maritime art. See the famed House of Seven Gables, setting of the novel by Nathaniel Hawthorne. Also included is a visit to Marblehead, a scenic summer resort town, which boasts a wealth of Revolutionary American history, beautiful mansions, marble cliffs, and seaside charm. With its colonial clapboard houses, narrow, winding streets and beautiful harbor, Marblehead retains much of its 17th century character. A seated luncheon will be provided in Salem.

The Birthplace of American Independence: Lexington and Concord

This tour will begin with a brief history of Cambridge as you pass through the town on the way to Lexington, the Birthplace of the American Revolution, where the first shots were fired. You will visit the famous Minuteman Statue, and step back over two centuries as you stroll on Lexington Green and recall the "Midnight Ride of Paul Revere", and the opening volleys of the Revolution 225 years ago, on April 19, 1775. Retracing the path of the advancing British Redcoats, you will proceed to Concord. Here you will stop at the Old North Bridge, where "the shot heard round the world" was fired "by the rude bridge that spanned the flood", immortalized in the poem The Concord Hymn, by local resident Ralph Waldo Emerson. Concord was a center of great literary figures in early American history, and you will see the homes of not only Emerson, but of Nathaniel Hawthorne, Henry David Thoreau, and Orchard House, home of the Alcotts of Little Women renown. The tour includes seated luncheon in Concord, at the Colonial Inn.

Golf Tournament with box lunch-- Stow Acres Country Club

The traditional and much-heralded Summer Conference Golf Tournament will heat up this year at Stow Acres Country Club. ABA duffers will be transported by motorcoach to Stow Acres Country Club, 45 minutes outside of Boston in the Great Meadows region of Stow, Massachusetts. The course is consistently listed as one of the top 50 Public Golf Courses in America by Golf Digest. Designed to challenge all golfers, the course offers picturesque scenery and demanding rolling hills and dales. Tournament entry fee includes box luncheon, beverages, round trip motorcoach transportation to Stow Acres, green fees, cart rental, tournament scoring and trophies for the ABA IPL champions. The tournament bus will board at the Marriott Copley Place at 9:15 a.m., with departure for Stow Acres at 9:30 a.m.

Tennis Tournament-- Boston Athletic Club

As with the Golf Tournament, this Summer Conference Tennis Tournament tradition is a must for all tennis aficionados. Competitors will be transported by motorcoach to the Boston Athletic Club, near Boston's World Trade Center and Financial District, for this afternoon round robin tournament. The tournament bus will board the Marriott Copley Place at 12:15 p.m., with departure at 12:30 p.m., to arrive at the Boston Athletic Club to allow time for warm-ups. The tournament promises to be a fun outing for tennis players of all levels. Tournament entry fee includes court fees, beverages, and transportation. Players should eat lunch on their own prior to the tournament.

Children's Program "Mad Science", with Dinner (ages 3-12)

A special event has been created to entertain children of those registrants who will be attending the Saturday Evening Dinner Show. This year's Children's Program features "Mad Science", an interactive approach to scientific exploration, which will dazzle children of all ages. With the help of the Mad Science Instructor, children will experience such experiments as "Slippery Science", an exploration of polymers including slime, silly putty and gak!; "Seeking Our Senses", featuring mind-boggling visual and auditory illusions; "Good Vibrations", a look at sound waves, and amplitude, and an opportunity to compose a Mad Science Symphony; "Magnificent Magnets", where children will build magnificent magnet chains and study the wildest forces in the universe; and "Electricity", where children can visit the circuit circus and discover its positives and negatives. A special dinner will be offered with food to please any kid's palate.
