2005 – 2006 Officer & Council Nominations Announced
The Section and its Nominating Committee Chair J.A. (Tony) Patterson, Jr., Fulbright & Jaworski, LLP, Dallas TX are pleased to announce the following slate for officers of the Section and the Section Governing Council. In accordance with the Bylaws of the Section, the slate of elected positions will be voted on at the Section Business Meeting at the ABA Annual Meeting on Saturday, August 6th in Chicago, IL.
Chair: Gregory L. Pemberton, partner, Ice Miller, Indianapolis, IN.
The Section's current Chair-Elect, Greg will become Chair automatically upon the conclusion of the ABA Annual Meeting in Chicago.
Greg has been a member of Council since 1996. He served as Section Secretary from 2002 – 2004. In 2004, Greg became Chair-Elect on the resignation of Alphonso O’Neil-White. Greg’s service to the Section includes a two-year term as Co-Chair of the Emerging Issues Conference and as a committee member and speaker for numerous other programs. He has been heavily involved in the ABA technology groups, both as a liaison and member of the ABA Standing Committee on Technology Information Systems and the Section Officers Conference Technology Committee, which he chaired in 2003 – 2004.
Chair-Elect: Paul R. DeMuro, partner, Latham & Watkins, San Francisco, CA
Paul has been a member of Council since 2001 and has served as Budget Officer since 2003. Paul was the first chair of the Transactional & Business Healthcare Interest Group, CLE Program Chair, Emerging Issues Conference Vice Chair, and Chair of the Section Membership & Marketing Committee, as well as the Section liaison to the ABA Joint Committee on Employee Benefits. Paul has also served on the Executive Committee of the ABA Section Officers Conference.
Vice Chair: Andrew J. Demetriou, partner, Fulbright & Jaworski LLP, Los Angeles, CA
Andy was a member of the Council from 2000 to 2003. His service to the Section included two years as Chair of the Managed Care & Insurance Interest Group, Co-Chair of the Task Force on Managed Care, and Chair of the Community Services activities. He has been a frequent speaker on issues involving legal issues and the ABA Model Roles of Professional Conduct. Andy also served as the head of Interest Groups from 2002 – 2004 and as a member of the ABA Section Conference Council Pro Bono Committee from 2001 – 2002.
Secretary: Vickie Yates Brown, partner, Greenebaum Doll & McDonald PLLC, Louisville, KY
Vickie has served the Section as Legislative Affairs Chair and was a Council member serving out an unexpired term from 2000 to 2002. She has served as liaison to the ABA Commission on Women and as member of Standing Committee on Medical Professional Liability.
Budget Officer: David W. Hilgers, partner, Brown McCarroll, LLP, Austin, TX
David has served on the Council since 2002. He has served as Programs Chair, Co-Chair of the Emerging Issues Conference and as the Chair and Vice Chair of the Managed Care & Insurance Interest Group. David is currently the Section Officers Conference liaison to the ABA Center for CLE.
Section Delegate to the ABA House of Delegates: Howard T. Wall III, Brentwood, TN
Howard has been a member of Council since 1995. He is nominated for a second term as Delegate, a position he assumed in 2002. Howard’s history with the Section includes service as a past Section Chair and participating as a member of the Interest Group Task Force, as well as serving as Section Secretary, Chair of the Emerging Issues conference, and as a member of the Section Nominating Committee. Howard has also served on a number of Section CLE program planning committees.
Council Members

David has served as a Vice Chair of the Healthcare Fraud & Compliance Interest Group and as a member of the ABA Working Group on the Federal Sentencing Guidelines. David is on the Emerging Issues Conference planning committee. David has also been a speaker at numerous Section CLE Conferences.
David H. Johnson, partner, Rodey Dickason Sloan Akin & Robb, Albuquerque, NM
David has served as a Chair and Vice Chair of the Healthcare Litigation & Risk Management Interest Group. David also serves as Co-Chair of the Emerging Issues Program.
