Health Law Section Interest Groups
What's in it for you?
The main work of the Section is done through its twelve Interest Groups (IGs) and their associated committees. The IGs advise the Section of important new issues and events in its area of interest and assist the Section on policy positions and in providing comments on regulations and proposed legislation with respect to matters within its area of interest and provide opportunities for participation by Section members by creating a forum for interaction and networking by IG members in the area of shared interests.
The Twelve Interest Groups are:
Business & Transactions
The Business & Transactions Interest Group focuses on the art and the law of healthcare transactions and business operations.
eHealth, Privacy & Security
This eHealth, Privacy & Security Interest Group focuses on three substantive areas - Health Information Privacy, Healthcare Electronic Communication & Information Technology Transactions, and Healthcare Technology Dispute Resolution.
Employee Benefits & Executive Compensation
The Employee Benefits & Executive Compensation Interest Group focuses on significant compliance issues relating to health and other welfare benefit plans with particular emphasis on HIPAA, COBRA, Medicare Secondary Payor rules, and ERISA Title I rules, as well as executive compensation issues.
Healthcare Facility Operations
The Healthcare Facility Operations Interest Group focuses on improving the law and related policy arising from the standards imposed on healthcare providers by external review organizations.
Healthcare Fraud & Compliance
The Healthcare Fraud & Compliance Interest Group addresses topical, cutting edge issues which are the focus of fraud and abuse prevention, investigations and prosecutions.
Healthcare Litigation & Risk Management
The Healthcare Litigation and Risk Management Interest Group examines areas in healthcare related litigation and the continuum of liability control.
Managed Care & Insurance
The Managed Care & Insurance Interest Group focuses on such issues as federal and state regulation of HMOs and other managed care organizations.
Medical Research, Biotechnology & Clinical Ethical Issues
The Medical Research, Biotechnology & Clinical Ethics Interest Group provides a forum in which members of the Health Law Section can consider and seek guidance about the legal and ethical implications of the difficult conundrums that arise in the clinical arena.
Payment & Reimbursement
The Payment & Reimbursement Interest Group follows trends, changes and practices in reimbursement, billing and collection under Medicare, Medicaid and other federal and state healthcare programs.
Physician Issues
The Physician Issues Interest Group will focuses on issues relating to joint ventures, Stark Law and fraud and abuse, practice management arrangements, medical staff issues, medical malpractice insurance issues, credentialing issues, HIPAA, and other issues relevant to attorneys who represent physicians.
Public Health & Policy
The Public Health & Policy Interest Group provides leadership to the ABA Health Law Section, and the ABA at large, in the area of public health and policy matters.
Tax & Accounting
The Tax & Accounting Interest Group focuses on the various challenges facing the Healthcare industry from a tax and regulatory perspective.
