Health Law Section

Section Chair Vickie Yates Brown

Vickie Yates BrownWelcome to the ABA Health Law Section web page. Our goal for this page is to provide you with information about the Section structure, our activities, targeted updates on issues that affect your practice, and an easy way for you to communicate with the Section leaders and staff. We are always looking for ways to make this page better, so please do not hesitate to contact us at any time.

Structure

The Health Law Section is one of the 27 Sections, Divisions and Forum of the ABA. We are governed by a Council which includes the Officers. We have four dedicated staff. The Section has the Divisions: Administrative, Member Services, Policy, Program and Publications. The Section has twelve Interest Groups which are listed below. Each Section member can join Interest Groups at no charge.

Activities

The Section has three main activities – CLE programs, publications and government submissions – and almost all of our activities are driven by our twelve substantive Interest Groups.

The Section’s main CLE is done by teleconferences, the most cost-effective way for you to obtain CLE credit. These ninety minute courses cover the gamut of health law. November 17 – 18 we will gather for our Washington Healthcare Summit in Washington, DC. This program brings together government and private practice attorneys to discuss issues that affect every healthcare lawyer. This policy driven program is always a top draw. The Emerging Issues in Healthcare Law is the Section flagship program. Attendees receive cutting edge CLE as well as the opportunity to participate in Interest Group meetings and meet colleagues of all stripes. This program will take place February 18 – 20 in Orlando, Florida.

The Section has a robust publishing program lead by The Health Lawyer, our bi-monthly magazine and our electronic newsletter ABA Health eSource. We have a well regarded Practical Guide Series of books and have a number of substantive books published with BNA.

The Section comments on regulations and develops ABA Report and Recommendations through various Task forces and Ad Hoc Committees. The work of these groups can be found here.
