A Message from the Military Lawyers Conference Chair
For those of you who don't know me, my name is Lee Schinasi. I am a retired Army Colonel and a Professor at the Barry University School of Law in Orlando, Florida, where I teach evidence, national security law and clinical legal education. I also serve as Director of Clinical Placements.
Prior to joining Barry University, I taught similar coursework at the University of Miami School of Law. Before that, I served in the United States Army's Judge Advocate Generals Corps, and was Director of Academics for the JAG graduate law school at the University of Virginia. I served
as a council member of the Government and Public Sector Lawyers Division from 1997 to August 2006. The ABA has been a great resource for me and I hope that other military lawyers can also benefit from bar association participation.
One of the most important roles of the Military Lawyers Conference (MLC) is to help military lawyers with career development issues, especially those related to transitioning to civilian practice. The MLC's newsletter, Reveille, serves as a forum to cover this topic. Also, the MLC has an e-mail discussion
list that allows members to trade ideas, ask questions on relevent subjects, and send military law-related announcements to fellow MLC members.
I hope to have the opportunity to meet with many of you during my time as Chair. Please feel free to call on myself or Kiren Jahangeer in the Division office at 202-662-1023 or jahangek@staff.abanet.org if you would like to join the Military Lawyers Conference.
Warmest regards,
Col. Lee Schinasi, Chair
U.S. Army, Retired
Professor, Barry University School of Law
Orlando, FL

SUPREME COURT UPHOLDS SOLOMON AMENDMENT
In Rumsfeld v. FAIR, the Supreme Court held that because Congress could require law schools to provide equal access to military recruiters without violating the schools' freedoms of speech and association, the Third Circuit erred in holding that the Solomon Amendment likely violates the First Amemdment.
