Jottings from the Editor…
A Resource for ABA Sections, Divisions, and Forums . . . .
By Lee S. Kolczun

That is the mission of the SOC e-News.  When Debra Enix-Ross was elected Chair of the SOC, she had a vision of creating a stronger SOC for the benefit of all the Sections, Divisions, and Forums which in turn would make the ABA a stronger professional organization for all of its members. One of Deborah’s ideas was to have a stronger communication emphasis with the SOC members.  Thus, SOC e-News was born and our mission was developed. Our first issue was published January 2 of this year and here we are into our second issue.  What is the old saying, "Time flies when you are having fun?"

The creation and design of this e-News was initially helped in large part by Sarina Butler and her staff including Russ Glidden and Sonia Taylor. Once the design was approved, it was Lametrea Gray that acted as the glue that put it all together and created the finished product. From that first issue, we received a number of emails congratulating us on the new publication and indicating what you liked about our new venture. It was good to hear what you liked in the e-News but we also would like to hear from each and everyone of you about what you do not like about the e-News, what you would like to see added to the e-News and how often you would like to see this publication. Currently, we are publishing three issues per bar year, i.e. January, April, and July.

We will listen to you. Believe me, being on the SOC Executive Committee for over six years, I find that this current Executive Committee does listen to your input.  For example, you came out loud and clear that you wanted the SOC Fall Meeting held in downtown Chicago and NOT out near O’Hare Airport.  We listened and the 2008 SOC Fall Meeting will be held downtown at the Chicago Westin River North Hotel September 18 and 19, 2008. So tell us and be honest with us.  As our mission states, we want to be a resource for each and every one of you. Being an officer takes a great deal of time, and if we all help one another, we will all be successful. But we need you and your input.  Please send any comments and/or suggestions to the SOC e-News mailbox at SOCenewsletter@staff.abanet.org or to me at LSK@Kolczunlaw.com. Also, if you would like to contribute an article to one of the newsletter departments, please contact me or Lametrea M. Gray at grayl@staff.abanet.org.

We are looking forward to hearing from you so that together we can make this a better communications tool for all of us.
