Who Is GP|Solo Revenue Development Director Charlie White?

After serving as the General Practice, Solo & Small Firm Division's Budget Officer for ten years, Charles A. White, Jr., became Revenue Development Director in 2002.

Charlie, as he is more commonly known, has been a member of the ABA since 1964, and has served the organization in numerous capacities during this time: as Council representative for the Young Lawyers Division, the International Law Section, and the General Practice, Solo & Small Firm Division; Chair of the Section Officers' Conference Budget Officers for seven years; Liaison to the ABA Board of Governor's Finance Committee; and member of the Board Investment Subcommittee for six years.

A native of Mathews County, Virginia, Charlie also is a graduate of the College of William & Mary (both undergraduate and law school); Fletcher School of Law & Diplomacy (sponsored by Harvard and Tufts Universities, M.A. in international relations); and Armor Officers Basic, Ft. Knox — from whence he retired as a Colonel after 20 years, 10 months, and 28 days (but who was counting?) in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General's Corps. During his Army stint, Charlie was stationed in these foreign countries: Germany (twice), Okinawa, Vietnam, and the Republic of Texas. He claims to have walked away from 13 parachute jumps and can drive and shoot a tank ("an old one, anyway," he clarifies).

Lest it seem that his life has been all work and no play, however — aside from the parachutes, that is — Charlie also served as a lifeguard at a Girl Scout summer camp and as a Smokey Bear park ranger. Be sure to ask him about these at the next meeting. In 1985, Charlie founded Business Leasing Associates, Inc., a commercial finance company servicing equipment leases and business loans, in Alexandria, Virginia, and currently serves as its vice president.

On the home front, Charlie and his wife Tricia (an associate member of the ABA) have two children and five grandchildren. When not participating in ABA activities, Charlie uses that lifeguard training while sailing Tricia's 45.5 Bristol sailboat out of Annapolis.
