Letter from the Chair-Elect

Chair-Elect Keith B. McLennan
Simplify Your Appointment
Greetings GP|Solo Division Members:
The theme for the 2007-2008 bar year is "Simplify: Simplify Your Practice, Your Profession and Your Life".
We at the GP Division are always looking for ways to make it easier for our members to make a living. Our mission is to provide practical tools to practicing lawyers so that they can be more efficient and effective. In turn we are hopeful that they will no longer be slaves to the office and can get out and enjoy life, after all what kind of counselor to your clients can you be if you are always working and fail to understand what is happening in the world around you? The best way to acquire these practical tools and acquire the skills necessary to simplify your practice and your life is to be an active participant in the work and play of the GP Division. I invite you to ratchet up your practice and improve your profession by seeking an appointment to a committee within the Division, we need and want you.
In order to accept this invitation all you need to do is to follow the SIMPLE directions on our webpage (above) or send me an email with your interest. This year appointments of committee leaders will be a little different from years past. Our Vice-Chair, Bob Zupkus, and I will appoint a chairperson and vice-chair for each committee so that there is continuity and assistance among committee leaders. When completing the appointment forms, please designate your preference for chair or vice-chair.
There are many ways in which you can serve the General Practice, Solo and Small Firm Division. There are hundreds of volunteer opportunities that are available throughout our Division. Many of these positions may be filled by those with little or no experience within the GP|Solo Division and/or the ABA. We simply request that you be willing to dedicate the time, energy, and enthusiasm to make a difference in our Division.
If you are currently actively involved in another division, section and/or committee of the ABA, please let me know. We are hopeful that you can assist us as we advance our goal of attracting more solo and small firm members to the ABA and thus to other sections, divisions, forums and committees of the ABA.
We will attempt to honor your appointment preferences. Since appointments will be made soon after a qualified applicant submits her application up until March 16, 2007, it is to your advantage to submit your applications without delay.
Thank you for your past, present and future efforts to help Simplify in an overly complex world.
If you have any questions or need additional information, please feel free to contact the Division Staff Director, Alexa Giacomini (312) 988-5636, or me at (610) 489-3300.
Respectfully,
Keith B. McLennan
Chair-Elect
