ABA Journal July 2008 Issue
The ABA Journal July 2008 Issue contains two articles featuring GP|Solo
and Small Firm.
The "Your ABA" column, Safety Net, details how Congress is considering to authorize the ABA to create a nationwide network of volunteer lawyers to represent victims of domestic violence and comments by Judge Pamila J. Brown, who chairs the ABA Domestic Violence Commission and GP|Solo Division Judiciary Committee. Read more here.
The “Solos
and Small Firms” column, focuses on Terry Berger and the
MD/DC/VA Monthly “Lunch Bunch”, a random group of Washington,
D.C., solo practitioners, who meet on the last Friday of every month.
Celebrating its ninth year, the group has grown exponentially from
when it first started, its purpose has not. It’s simply a
chance to gab, socialize and network with other solos about anything
and everything. Read about their April 2008 meeting here.
National Law Journal
Each year, the National Law Journal puts out a special section on the ABA that is given out at the Annual Meeting. The NLJ selects the entities they want to cover. This year – as last year – they have selected the GP|Solo Division.
Robert A. Zupkus, the incoming Chair of the General Practice, Solo and Small
Firm Division, details how GP|Solo represents largest group of the nation’s
lawyers in the upcoming article. More.
The focus of the Summer 2008 Solo e-Newsletter is Office Management. These short articles, written by solo and small firm practitioners, offer insightful and helpful information on employee benefits, hiring procedures, associates, virtual assistants, communication and consulting mentor lawyers.

Spanish-language Health and Financial Decisions »
Buenos diás!
In 2003, the ABA Commission on Law and Aging produced
a Spanish version of its most popular consumer brochure "Health
and Financial Decisions: Legal Tools for Preserving Your
Personal Autonomy."
The Commission also produced a 19-minute Spanish-subtitled
version of the video "In Your Hands: The Tools for
Preserving Personal Autonomy." The video comes with
a program guide that provides sample scripts and discussion
points to help present the program. The video is available
in DVD and VHS format.
The materials encourage seniors to use legal planning
tools to ensure that their personal, health care and financial
wishes are honored in the event they become sick, disabled
or incapacitated.
They are wonderful tools for attorneys and advocates who
work with Spanish-speaking seniors, caregivers, or family
members.
To see the Spanish version of the brochure, go to:
http://www.abanet.org/aging/publications/docs/health_financial_desc_spa.pdf
To see the English version of the brochure, go to:
http://www.abanet.org/aging/publications/docs/HealthFinancial2004.pdf
The Spanish versions are now available for free, including
shipping, while supplies last.
To request copies of the brochure, (and don't be shy, we
have plenty) and copies of the video or DVD version of
In Your Hands, please email: abaaging@abanet.org.
