Law Student Event: How to Get a Job in a Small Firm

In GP|Solo, we're fortunate to have a good number of law student members, and we haven't forgotten you! In fact, we'll be holding a special presentation at Temple University's Beasley School of Law on Thursday night (October 4th, 4pm-6pm) entitled How to Get a Job in a Small Firm. This unique opportunity is open to any and all law students, and will be followed by a wine and cheese "meet & greet" reception. Presenting will be the Division's Chair, Keith B. McLennan (Partner at Miller, Turetsky, Rule & McLennan, P.C.), William T. Hogan III (Partner at Nelson, Mullins, Riley & Scarborough, LLP) and Laura V. Farber (Hiring Partner at Hahn & Hahn, LLP), and you will have a chance to informally chat with these leaders in the solo & small firm community at the reception.

In addition to Thursday's special event, any interested law students are invited to attend, at no charge, any of the CLE courses on offer throughout the weekend, as well as any of the open sessions of the GP|Solo Fall Meeting. I encourage you to take this rare opportunity to learn what the ABA — and in particular the General Practice, Solo & Small Firm Division — has to offer.

Friday night of the Fall Meeting (Oct. 5), we will honor six lawyers who have made a difference to the Bar, the Community, Pro Bono and Breaking Barriers, at our Difference Makers Awards Dinner. In a crowded field, this year’s winners were:

  • Harvey F. Strauss (Maple Glen, PA) as Co-Director of Legal Aid for Southeastern PA
  • Judge Pamila J. Brown (Ellicott City, MD) for Breaking Barriers

This is no ordinary awards dinner! It starts at 4:30pm with a Night at the Museum at the National Constitution Center, including an exclusive tour of this magnificent new facility and testament to our most vital document. This is followed by a reception and dinner gala, including entertainment from Philly's hottest blues band, Blues Anatomy.
