In Memoriam:
Sharon Corbitt
It is with great sadness that I report that Sharon Corbitt of
Oklahoma, chair of the Family Law Section from 2001-02, died as a result of injuries
sustained in a fire at her home on December 13, 2007.
The fire occurred during the power outages in Tulsa caused by an ice storm that
knocked out power to most of Tulsa for several days. Sharon was a member of Sneed Lang,
PC law firm in Tulsa.
Sharon's husband, James Lang, also a well-known lawyer in Tulsa and a partner at Sneed Lang,
also died as a result of the fire.
Sharon's services to the ABA Family Law Section went far beyond
her year as chair. She has been an active and productive member
of the Editorial Board of the Family Advocate. She
has been serving as chair of an ad hoc committee charged with
commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Family Law Section.
As with everything she did, Sharon was performing outstanding
service for the benefit of the Section.
Sharon was also a Fellow in the American Academy of Matrimonial
Lawyers and a past president of the Oklahoma Chapter. She
served over the years in many capacities on the Tulsa County
Bar Association Board of Directors, currently as its ABA Delegate.
She was recognized as the University of Tulsa College of Law
Distinguished Alumna in Residence and was twice selected as
the outstanding Family Law Attorney by the Oklahoma Bar Association
Family Law Section. Sharon was also an OBA Spotlight Award
Winner and TCBA Golden Rule recipient.
Sharon was a founding trustee of the Long Term Care Authority of Tulsa and served on
the Board of Directors of the Parent Child Center.
She had two sons, Chad Corbitt and Blake Corbitt, whobetween them and her two stepdaughtersgave her 7
grandchildren, the most recent being a grandson born Wednesday, December 12th, 2007.
While we will find an appropriate way to memorialize Sharon, her family has requested contributions to:
