Section Provides
Vital Service to Military Personnel
In addition to the comprehensive
CLE programming offered during the Spring Conference, the Section
produced a free full day pre-conference CLE program, Family
Law and the Military, designed specifically for JAG Officers
and other individuals who assist our military personnel with
family law issues.
While in San Juan over 60 area attorneys, JAG Officers, and
social service professionals attended the session presented
by section members Patricia Apy, Joseph Booth, Maurice Kutner
and Mark Sullivan. Programming covered the new Servicemembers
Civil Relief Act; UIFSA and child support; custody and family
care plans and domestic violence.

Judges’
Guide to the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act
by Mark E. Sullivan
Mark Sullivan’s article highlights some issues related
to the impact of military service on civil litigation, financial
obligations, mortgages, leases, and other matters, specifically
focusing on the Judges'
Guide to the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA).
He encourages Section members to share this invaluable resource
with their judges so that service personnel around the country
may have their rights protected in the courtroom.
