Do you like to write? The Section of Environment, Energy, and Resources has opportunities for writing ranging from a few paragraphs to many pages. The Section’s publications and details for writing are summarized below. The publications are listed based on average submission length, from shortest to the longest.
Committee Newsletters
Content: Substantive law under a committee's purview. Practice tips. Updates on committee activities.
Submission Length: From a few paragraphs to several thousand words.
Distribution: Posted on the Section’s Web site; email notification of new issues is sent to Section members belonging to committees.
Most of the Section’s 40 substantive committees are active in the Section’s newsletter program, each producing 2 to 4 newsletters a year. Wide-ranging opportunities are available to write articles from a few paragraphs to several thousand words in length. Topics can cover substantive areas of the law, practice tips and committee activities. Some newsletters break down news by region.

Trends
Content: Current topics in the practice of environmental, energy, and resources law. Practice tips for those areas of law. Updates on Section programs and activities.
Submission Length: One or two page articles.
Distribution: All Section members, and libraries participating in ABA Publishing’s package plan.
The Section’ newsletter, Trends, contains short articles on current issues in environmental, energy and resources law; as well as news of Section programs and events. It is published 6 times a year.

The Year in Review
Content: Significant developments in the law over the past year. Each committee determines its own scope.
Length: Chapter length is assigned and varies.
Distribution: All Section members.
The Year in Review is the Section’s annual summary of significant developments in the law over the past year. Substantive committees are asked to contribute a chapter surveying developments in its purview. Chapter length is assigned and varies. Most committees have several committee members contribute to its chapter.

Natural Resources & Environment
Content: Natural Resources & Environment is published quarterly, by season. Each issue publishes 8 to 9 feature articles reflecting the theme of a given issue. Regular departments include Insights, featuring short articles on hot topics in environmental, energy and resources law; Literary Resources, featuring reviews of books and periodicals of interest to the environment, energy, and resources bar; Interviews, featuring conversations with leaders in the environment, energy, and resources fields; and The Back Page, featuring reader comments, updates to previous articles, and Web sites related to the issue’s main theme.
Submission Length: Feature articles: 10 to 20 pages, Insights: 5 to 6 pages..
