Program Overview:
Nanotechnology is viewed by many as a much needed means to achieve improved sanitation and clean water, particularly in developing countries where access to both is limited. In the United States, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is keenly aware of the promise nanotechnology holds, and is exploring under its Clean Water Act authority how best to address the potential risks and benefits of nanotechnology.

This is the fifth in a series of eight quick teleconferences (QTs) in the Nanotechnology QT series. It will address legal questions that arise as EPA considers its authority under the Clean Water Act, the broader policy issues concerning the applications of nanotechnology as a means to provide clean water and sanitation, and will highlight some of the emerging applications of nanotechnology as they relate to water and sanitation projects.

Educational Objectives:

  • Learn about the regulation of nanotechnology under the Clean Water Act;
  • Learn about general regulatory policy for nanotechnology;
  • Learn about specific applications of nanotechnology.
