Program Overview:
This teleconference will review pending House and (expected) Senate proposals for mining law reform, legal and policy issues raised by the proposals, and prospects for compromise and enactment. Current proposals out of the House of Representatives reflect possible changes to land tenure rights, environmental standards for the use of public lands, and the imposition of gross royalties. The Senate is sure to follow with its own priorities and objectives. This panel of experts will provide insights to congressional deliberations and the objectives of all stakeholders in this important debate.

Educational Objectives:

  • Learn what changes to the law are being considered by Congress
  • What legal challenges could be triggered by various proposals
  • How will property rights and environmental protection laws be affected and implicated
