37th Conference on Environmental Law
The ABA Section of Environment, Energy, and Resources is pleased to offer this outstanding environmental law conference at the Keystone Resort and Conference Center in Keystone, Colorado during March 13-16, 2008. This unique program has been developed to provide advanced-level practitioners with insights into the latest developments, challenges, and opportunities in the dynamic field of environmental law. Breakout sessions will offer up-to-the-minute information on a variety of substantive and practice-oriented topics, while the daily plenary sessions will focus on cross-cutting issues of interest to all environmental lawyers.
Highlights include:
• A Keynote Address by Gary Braasch, photographer and author, Earth Under Fire: How Global Warming is Changing the World
• Technical roundtables presenting cutting-edge information from top environmental science, technology, and related service providers
• Friday plenary session discussion on how the U.S. Supreme Court in recent years has played a major role in resolving difficult questions of regulatory authority arising under the environmental laws
• Friday afternoon luncheon featuring two important Section initiatives that reflect our commitment to environmental stewardship – the ABA-EPA Law Office Climate Challenge and the Model Sustainability Policy. In addition, EPA's general counsel, Roger Martella, will discuss a lawyer's "carbon footprint"
• Friday afternoon breakout session on significant regulatory developments under the Clean Air Act concerning climate change that are expected to have occurred by early 2008
• A fabulous Section dinner event on Friday evening (friends and family welcome)
• Saturday plenary session on disaster management and preparedness that explores the connection between land use and disaster mitigation
• Saturday afternoon luncheon featuring Ronald J. Tenpas, Assistant Attorney General, Environment and Natural Resources Division, U.S. Department of Justice discussing civil and criminal enforcement priorities and initiatives
• Breakout sessions focusing on Climate Change, Brownfields Deals with Wetlands, Courts and Climate Beyond Massachusetts v. EPA, Energy Options in a Changing Climate, CERCLA, Environmental Enforcement and Auditing, and a Primer for the Environmental Attorney
• Sunday plenary session exploring ethical issues associated with competence and confidentiality, and the challenges practitioners face when attempting to adhere to these rules while advising clients in emerging legal areas such as climate change and nanotechnology
