16th Section Fall Meeting Registration Information

The Section is pleased to host two separate but complimentary programs in Phoenix: the 16th Section Fall Meeting and The Basic Practice Series. Please refer to the information below about how to register for these two programs.

Program Course Materials
Conference proceedings and related background information will be provided to participants via CD-ROM to reduce the environmental impact of the program. For those who would also like to reserve a hard copy of the program materials so that it is available onsite at the meeting, please pre-order on the registration form. Only pre-ordered copies will be available onsite.

Location and Lodging
The Section events will take place at the Arizona Biltmore Resort & Spa, 2400 East Missouri, Phoenix, AZ. The Section has negotiated a discounted rate for meeting attendees of $220 single/double occupancy. A limited number of rooms are available to government employees at a rate of $102. Identification is required for the government rate. Please make your reservations early by calling the hotel directly at (602) 955-6600 or (800) 950-0086. Remember to ask for the American Bar Association rooming block to take advantage of the discounted rates. Based upon availability, discounted room rates will only be available until Monday, August 25, 2008.

Transportation
The Arizona Biltmore is located approximately nine miles from the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX). Several options are available exist for your transfer between the airport and the hotel. All major rental car agencies are represented at Sky Harbor. Also, taxi service is located outside of baggage claim at a cost of approximately $30-$40 plus gratuity (one way). Execu-car is the preferred towncar and transportation service for the Arizona Biltmore, providing airport curbside service at $29 (plus gratuity) or meet-and-greet service for $54 (plus gratuity). To pre-arrange this service you may call the Arizona Biltmore concierge at (602) 955-6600, or call Execu-car directly at (602) 232-4632, and mention that you will be a guest at the Arizona Biltmore.

Advance Registration
All registrations must please be made in advance of the conference. We encourage you to take advantage of online registration at http://www.abanet.org/environ/fallmeet/2008/. You can also complete the attached form and mail it with your check (payable to the American Bar Association) or credit card number to: ABA Section of Environment, Energy, and Resources, Attn: Program Registrar, 321 N. Clark Street, Chicago, IL 60654. All attendees must be registered for this program to participate.

The deadline to receive the early bird registration rate for the Section Fall Meeting is August 11, 2008. All registrations postmarked after August 11, 2008, must include an additional $50 for processing. The final cutoff date for advance registrations is August 25, 2008.

Section Fall Meeting Registration Fee
The registration fee for the 16th Section Fall Meeting includes tuition and CD-ROM proceedings developed especially for this meeting. In addition, your fee covers Wednesday’s public service project and Welcome Reception; Thursday’s Technical Roundtable Luncheon and offsite dinner at the Heard Museum; Friday’s Committee Get-Together Luncheon and Local Flair Reception; and Saturday’s "The Other Renewables" offsite trip and the Wine and Cheese Farewell Reception. Continental breakfast and networking breaks will take place on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. You are also invited to participate in the ticketed breakfast roundtables and Saturday’s Lunch with the Client—space is limited at these events and tickets will be available on a first come, first served basis. Please register for these ticketed events on the attached registration form. Attendees of The Basic Practice Series should consult the program description for registration fee information.

*Qualifying young lawyers are those who have been admitted to practice in their first bar within the past five years or who are less than 36 years old.

Attention ABA Members!
If you are an ABA member but not a member of the Section of Environment, Energy, and Resources, please note that your conference registration fee ($660 before or on 8/11/08 or $710 after 8/11/08) now includes Section membership. Please check the box on the registration form (in the Conference brochure) to indicated you want to take advantage of this offer. ABA membership is a prerequisite of Section membership. If you are not already an ABA member, please call (800) 285-2221. Please note: Free membership only applies to individuals who have not been a member of the Section in the past two years.

The Basic Practice Series Registration Information
The basic registration fee (excluding books) for this program includes tuition for the program and course material proceedings developed especially for this meeting. In addition, your fee covers reception and networking events at the Section Fall Meeting including the offsite dinner at the Heard Museum (Thursday), continental breakfast, networking breaks, and receptions on Friday and Saturday.

If you wish to participate in programs in conjunction with the Section Fall Meeting, you are expected to register for the Fall Meeting separately; one-day registration rates are available.

The Basic Practice Series Books
Registrants of The Basic Practice Series may also choose to register for this program and receive a significant discount on the Section’s Basic Practice Series Book Publications. The following books will be included in the discounted package price: Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, RCRA, CERCLA, and FIFRA.

Spouse/Guests
Spouses and guests of registered meeting attendees are invited to participate in the Welcome Reception on Wednesday and the Farewell Reception on Saturday. Thursday’s offsite reception at the Heard Museum is not complimentary to spouse/guests. Non registered spouse/guests may purchase a ticket to attend for $75/person (see registration form).

Ticketed Breakfasts
In addition to the general breakfasts, there are two ticketed breakfasts on the program. You are invited to participate at no additional charge in the ticketed breakfast roundtables. However, space is limited so you are required to register for a ticket in advance of the functions. Tickets will be distributed on a first come, first served basis. Please register for these events on the attached registration form.

Luncheons
Lunches on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday are included in your registration fee. You need not reserve a ticket for Thursday or Friday. Saturday’s “Lunch with the Client” is a ticketed event. Saturday lunch tickets will be available on a first come, first served basis. Please register for this event on the attached registration form.

Dietary Restrictions
If you have any dietary restrictions, please indicate so on the attached registration form, on the online registration system, or by calling the Program Assistant (312) 988-5724 by August 25, 2008, so that your needs are noted.

Cancellation Policy
Purchased tickets for events are considered final at the time of sale and do not qualify for a refund upon cancellation. Attendees registered for the Section Fall Meeting and/or The Basic Practice Series are eligible for a full refund of the registration fee less a $50 administrative fee for all written requests received by September 3, 2008. No refunds will be granted after September 3, 2008—no exceptions will be made. Substitutions are acceptable. The Section does not provide credits to be used toward future programs. Cancellations may be sent via fax to (312) 988-5572, attn.: Program Registrar. The ABA reserves the right to cancel any program and assumes no responsibility for personal expenses.

Special Tuition Assistance
A limited number of registration fee waivers are available for government employees, public interest lawyers employed with non-profit organizations, and academics. To apply, send a letter outlining the program you are interested in attending (16th Section Fall Meeting and/or The Basic Practice Series) and the basis for your request of a fee waiver to Jonathan Kahn, Program Chair, c/o the ABA Section of Environment, Energy, and Resources, 321 N. Clark Street, Chicago, IL 60654. Deadline: August 11, 2008.

Dress and Weather
Section meetings are business casual. Suggested dress includes slacks, skirts, polo-type shirts or blouses, sweaters, and comfortable shoes. Remember the hotel will be air conditioned, so please pack a jacket or sweater. The average temperature in Phoenix in September ranges from a high of 97 degrees to a low of 75 degrees.
