Our goal is to provide attorneys whose practice includes petroleum marketing matters with an opportunity to exchange ideas, obtain timely information concerning cases, statutes and regulations in the industry, address issues that affect their current and future practices and to provide opportunities to develop interpersonal relationships.

Petroleum marketing has, over the years, evolved into a broad range of issues. They include, among other points, the following:

1. Developments under the Federal Petroleum Marketing Practices Act (PMPA). This includes cases arising under the PMPA as well as efforts to amend the PMPA.
2. State statutes and regulations attempting to apply to the relationship between refiners and downstream suppliers or jobbers and retail operators.
3. Pricing statutes and regulations.
4. The effect of anti-trust laws.
5. The effect of Federal and State consumer statutes.
6. Environmental laws, including but not limited to, the Clean Air Act and Amendments, CERCLA, RCRA and Federal and State regulations concerning underground storage tanks.
7. How cross-franchising has developed and what laws affect both parties to such relationships.
8. How the Americans with Disabilities Act has affected the operations of both refiners and suppliers of petroleum products.
9. State and local laws (common law, statues and regulations) concerning liability of suppliers and operators of service stations/convenience stores for personal injuries to consumers.
10. The affect of zoning ordinances on the development of state-of-art service stations.
11. How the industry has changed as a result of the consolidation of refiners (examples include the merger of BP-Amoco and the proposed merger between Exxon and Mobil).
