The Environmental Crimes and Enforcement Committee welcomes new and returning vice-chairs. Our new vice-chairs are Joel Gross of Washington, DC, Tracy Hester of Houston, and Jeffrey Marks of Washington, DC. Returning as vice-chairs or assistants are Walt James of Dallas, Peter Anderson of Charlotte, North Carolina, Ahab Abdel-Aziz of Toronto, Doug Arnold of Atlanta, Tom Kelly of Washington, DC, Tom Kiehnhoff of Beaumont, Texas, Lara Mathews of Washington, DC, Virginia Yang of Chicago, and Betsy Six of Kansas City, Missouri. Each of these people has agreed to commit a substantial amount of their time to working on important Committee projects such as newsletters, programs, technology, membership, public service and The Year In Review publication. Thanks to the vice-chairs and assistants.

The Committee will publish three newsletters during the 2002-03 year. We hope these newsletters will present a balance of articles on interesting criminal and civil issues for environmental litigators and practitioners. I hope you enjoy this edition of the Committee's Newsletter. It reports on a very interesting criminal environmental case tried in Chicago and provides an informative article regarding debarment procedures.

All of us in the Committee's leadership look forward to a successful year in 2002-03. If you would like to get more involved in the Committee, please contact me or Betsy Six, our Membership vice-chair, at esix@spencerfane.com.
