On November 20, 2001, after a six week trial, a federal jury found eight lab workers not guilty on all 77 counts of falsifying test results. The eight, employees of Intertek Testing Services of Richardson, Texas, were accused of misrepresenting test results of the cleanup of thousands of hazardous waste sites and other environmental cases. The investigation of Intertek began in 1997 and resulted in the indictment of 13 Intertek employees and the company itself. Five of the employees and the company plead guilty to falsifying lab reports prior to trial.
