As we begin a new Committee-leadership year, I would like to thank all of those participating in the efforts to advance the services of the Air Quality Committee. The Committee once again had a very active year and is moving forward with another busy agenda this year.

We again are focusing our efforts on providing quality air-based programs and teleconferences. I encourage all of you to make the10th Section Fall Meeting in Portland, Oregon. This looks to be a great meeting. The air panels focusing on New Source Review and air/energy issues look to be both timely and informative. We also have proposed two air panels for the 32nd Annual Conference on Environmental Law in Keystone, Colorado. One focuses on New Source Review reform issues while the other would consider mobile source issues. We are in the process of finalizing the schedule and agenda for the Update: Clean Air Act satellite seminar, co-sponsored with EPA and A&WMA. This seminar is scheduled for November 14, and will include an interview with Assistant Administrator Jeff Holmstead, as well as sessions addressing Ambient Standards, Transportation Conformity Demonstrations, Air Toxics and New Source Review.

The air-related teleconferences last year focusing on New Source Review reform, the Clear Skies proposal and 112(j) were very successful. We will continue to use teleconferences to provide timely discussions regarding breaking developments. The chat room located on our home page (http://www.abanet.org/environ/committees/airquality/) as well as the list serve continue to offer options for initiating air-related discussions.

Our publications group will be focusing on finalizing revisions to the 2nd edition of the Clean Air Act Handbook, and we are always looking for members that are willing to write articles for the numerous publications that our committee supports. Also, we are continuing to seek new members and increased member participation. Please call (800/237-2000) or e-mail me (bfh@nmrs.com) with any requests, suggestions or offers to participate.
