The ABA Commission on Domestic Violence (the "Commission"), in partnership with the Office on Violence Against Women, U.S. Department of Justice, and the National Center for the Prosecution of Violence Against Women American Prosecutors Research Institute, National District Attorneys Association, Texas RioGrande Legal Aid and the Washington Coalition of Sexual Assault Program present a two-day National Training Institute on the Use and Integration of Interpreters in Civil Representation of Victims of Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Stalking on Monday and Tuesday, May 14 and May 15, 2007 in Seattle, Washington.
This Institute is designed to provide attorneys who have intermediate experience representing victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking who have Limited English Proficiency (LEP) and/or who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing with culturally and linguistically competent models and learning opportunities by which to develop their legal expertise, sharpen their litigation skills, and advance their knowledge on the use and integration of language interpreters in the court room. Eligible participants are attorneys who are current Legal Assistance for Victims (LAV) grantees from the Office on Violence Against Women, U.S. Department of Justice, former LAV grantees and current legal aid and legal services attorneys .
