Commission for Domestic Violence
Mobilizing the legal profession to provide access to justice and safety for victims of domestic violence.

History of the ABA Commission on Domestic Violence

Founded in 1994, the mission of the ABA Commission on Domestic Violence ("the Commission") is to increase access to justice for victims of domestic violence by mobilizing the legal profession. The Commission addresses the acute need to increase the number of well-trained and supported attorneys providing representation to victims by providing training opportunities for lawyers, law students, and other legal advocates.

The Commission is a nationally-recognized leader on increasing access to justice for domestic violence victims through the mobilization of the legal community. The Commission provides in-person, web-based, and telephonic continuing legal education opportunities for attorneys representing victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking. The Commission also publishes a number of resources for use by attorneys representing victims of domestic violence. Through these efforts the Commission strives to support, to improve, and to increase the legal response to victims of domestic violence.
