U.S. Department of Justice Office on Violence Against Women
Fiscal Year 2007 Legal Assistance to Victims Grantees Orientation

The ABA Commission on Domestic Violence (the “Commission”), in collaboration with the Office on Violence Against Women and our fellow Technical Assistance Providers, will host an orientation for FY 2007 Legal Assistance for Victim Grantees (LAV) on Thursday and Friday, December 13-14, 2007 at The Capitol Hilton Hotel in Washington, DC.

Who:
This training is mandatory for all Fiscal Year 2007 LAV grantees. Each LAV grant recipient may send up to two individuals to attend this orientation including (1) the project director or coordinator and (2) an attorney or advocate engaged in providing direct services to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking or dating violence with LAV grant funding awarded in Fiscal Year 2007. The attorney or advocate may be from the grantee organization and/or their partner in the LAV grant.

What:
Over two days, attendees will be introduced to the staff of the Office on Violence Against Women and the Technical Assistance (TA) Providers for the LAV grant program and learn about the variety of training, support and other technical assistance opportunities available from each TA Provider. Attendees will also learn about reporting and program requirements as an LAV grantee as well as have an opportunity to ask questions about these processes. Finally, attendees will have an opportunity to meet and network with fellow Fiscal Year 2007 grantees.

How:
This training is free to FY 2007 LAV grantees, however you must cover travel and hotel costs by using your training funding from your LAV grant and you must make your own travel arrangements and book your reservation with The Capital Hilton hotel.

Where:
The training will be held at The Capitol Hilton, 1001 16th St., NW, Washington, DC 20024. We have reserved a block of rooms at the federal government rate. You will be provided detailed instructions about how to make a reservation when your registration is confirmed.

When:
Thursday and Friday, December 13-14, 2007. Please note that the orientation will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 13, 2007 so it is recommended that attendees arrive on Wednesday, December 12, 2007. The orientation will end at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, December 14, 2007 so grantees are asked to make their flight arrangements to leave no earlier than 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 14, 2007.
