Friday, July 31, 2009
9:00AM - 10:30 AM
The Swissotel Alpine Ballroom I
323 East Wacker Drive, Chicago, IL

In 2007, the ABA adopted Standards of Practice for Lawyers Representing Victims of Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Stalking in Civil Protection Order Cases. Since their adoption the ABA Commission on Domestic Violence has trained hundreds of lawyers, advocates and judges regarding successful implementation to the Standards. This panel of experts will discuss the ways in which the Standards have been and can be implemented in everyday practice and the ways in which they are improving the quality of representation victims receive in civil protection order proceeding across the country. ABA Young Lawyers Division Project: Voices Against Violence

Voices Against Violence is a call to action for young lawyers around the country to join forces to end domestic violence. The program is designed to educate young lawyers about the epidemic of domestic violence, particularly among the teen population. It is our goal to engage young lawyers in efforts to respond to and prevent domestic violence in their communities by taking part in legislative advocacy, handling pro bono cases involving domestic violence, providing support to existing domestic violence shelters and programs, delivering presentations to the public about domestic violence or holding local roundtable discussions for domestic violence advocates. Our website is intended to provide you with the resources you need to implement a domestic violence project in your community. For more information, click here.
