What You Need to Know about Dispute Resolution:
The Guide to Dispute Resolution Processes

The Guide to Dispute Resolution Processes is designed to educate members of the public about dispute resolution processes commonly used to resolve legal, community, school, public policy and many other types of disputes. The Guide explains what dispute resolution is, why it is used, and defines ten different dispute resolution processes.

The Guide is particularly helpful for:

  • Lawyers who need to explain dispute resolution to their clients
  • Courts that mandate or suggest participation in dispute resolution
  • Government agencies who need to inform staff and constituents
  • Teachers and students who participate in peer mediation
  • Community organizations who sponsor, coordinate, or participate in dispute resolution programs
  • Law school clinics whose students and clients participate in dispute resolution
  • State and local bars whose members may need a concise description for clients
