2007 Representation in Mediation Competition
2007 Representation in Mediation Competition
The 2007 Representation in Mediation Competition may be coming to a city near you. Over the next few months, law students will be gathering in conference rooms and moot court rooms around the country to demonstrate their skills at representing clients in mediation. This year, 192 students from 49 different law schools will compete in the regionals of the ABA’s Representation in Mediation Competition.
We need experienced mediators and lawyers to serve as volunteer mediators and judges for the regionals and the nationals. If you are interested in volunteering for the regionals, please see the list of regional locations and dates below. To contact the regional coordinators, see http://www.abanet.org/dispute/mediation/2007hosts.doc. To volunteer for the Nationals in Washington DC on April 25-27, please e-mail ginaviolabrown@gmail.com. The competition coordinators will ask you to fill out an application to volunteer and send them a resume or biography.
Each law school can field one or two teams of students to participate in the competition. Each team consists of two students. In each round of the competition one student plays the role of an attorney in a mediation and the other student plays the role of the client. The students are judged on preparation, teamwork, how well the interests of the client are represented, using opportunities in the mediation process, and other elements of effective advocacy in mediation.
The winners of the regional competitions are invited to compete at the National Finals in Washington, DC on April 25-27, 2007 in conjunction with the American Bar Association Section of Dispute Resolution's Annual Meeting.
