Benefits of Membership:

1.  Periodicals and Publications – Section members receive an annual subscription to the Dispute Resolution Magazine (quarterly), Just Resolutions E-Newsletter (monthly), member only E-updates and a 50% discount on the Ohio State Journal of Dispute Resolution.  In addition, Section members receive at least a 20% discount on books published by the Section.  These materials will help you stay abreast of cutting edge dispute resolution issues that impact lawyers who represent clients in ADR as well as dispute resolution professionals.

2.  CLE Sessions and Trainings – The Section offers a number of trainings on current topics of interest to neutrals and lawyers who represent clients in ADR proceedings.  We schedule and co-sponsor numerous CLE events and conferences a year, at which members receive a registration discount greater than the cost of Section membership.

3.  Professional Liability Insurance – The Section offers its members malpractice liability insurance for dispute resolution professionals.  This policy is among the best offered on the market today.  Having malpractice insurance is a must for every mediator and arbitrator.

4.  Networking Opportunities – The Section offers opportunities to join and participate in more than 27 subject matter, process and standing committees.  Involvement in these committees can help you expand your practice, network with others who have shared interests and help shape the field of dispute resolution.

5.  Timely Practice Tips – The Section maintains members-only email discussion lists, from which members exchange timely advice about developments in ADR practice and the laws affecting such practice. In addition, regular columns in Dispute Resolution Magazine and Just Resolutions provide members with critical practice, skill and business development information.

6.  Annual Spring Conference – Our 2010 Annual Spring Conference will be held in San Francisco, CA.  It has become an essential gathering place for those interested in dispute resolution. Section members receive a substantial discount off the registration.

7.  Ethics Guidance – Section members can receive guidance about emerging ethics issues that arise in a dispute resolution practice from leading practitioners and academics.

8.  Improving ADR Practice – The Section led in drafting the Uniform Mediation Act and provided advice for the recent revisions of the Uniform Arbitration Act.  In addition, the Section successfully had the ABA House of Delegates adopt new Model Standards of Conduct for Mediators and a Code of Ethics for Arbitrators in Commercial Disputes.
