List Manager Responsibilities and Commands

The ABA Network is now using Lsoft's List Serve Software for its discussion groups. Here is some basic and useful information to get you acquainted with the features of this software. Please save these instructions as a reference guide.

Your list and your personal options have been set up as they were before. For example, if your list was moderated before, it will still be a moderated list now. Most importantly, THE ADDRESS TO SEND MESSAGES TO YOUR LIST HAS NOT CHANGED.

Changes
There are a few minor changes that you should be aware of:

Your list defaults can be changed by sending a message to listadmin@staff.abanet.org. You can also change the defaults yourself by editing the list configuration files. However, DO NOT EDIT your config files unless you have read and understand the instructions in the Lsoft List Owner's Manual (http://www.lsoft.com/manuals/ownerindex.html). It is very important that you understand these instructions completely before editing your config files since it is easy to completely erase your subscriber files and cause other problems with your list. If you would like to edit your config files directly, send a message to listadmin@staff.abanet.org prior to doing so the first time.

Common Commands

Most commands can be referred to by the first few letters of the command (shown below in all caps). Information in [brackets] should be substituted with the proper information. For instance [listname] should be replaced by the actual name of the list. Do not include brackets in your commands.

Add a user to your list:
ADD listname userid@domain.ext User's Name

Remove a user from your list:
DELete listname userid@domain.ext User's Name

Check a user's options:
query listname for userid@domain.ext

Change a User's setting to receive the digest version of the list:
SET listname DIGests for userid@domain.ext

Turn off a previously selected digest setting for a User:
SET listname NODIGests for userid@domain.ext

Find out who is on your list:
REView listname

Add a long address that may line wrap:
// ADD listname this.is.a.really.long.userid@and.a.really.long.domain.ext ,
[User's Name]
