Each year, the Commission’s Subcommittee on Lawyers with Disabilities coordinates an award ceremony and networking reception during the ABA Annual Meeting.  The reception is attended by ABA leaders, lawyers with disabilities, and other disability rights lawyers and advocates. Traditionally, the ABA President or President-Elect presents the Paul G. Hearne Award for Disability Rights at the ceremony. The award is presented to an individual who or an organization that has performed exemplary service in the area of disability rights. In 2007 the award went to Laura Cooper Fenimore, a private solo attorney.

The ceremony and reception are open to the public. The 2007 reception was held in San Francisco, CA at the ABA Annual Meeting. The 2008 ceremony and reception will be held in New York City in early August.
