Welcome to the Low Income Taxpayers Committee webpage. The Committee addresses the needs and concerns of low-income taxpayers, such as the earned income and other tax credits, the definition of a dependent, and the deduction for personal exemptions. The Committee also addresses tax collections issues affecting low income taxpayers. We co-sponsor workshops for Low Income Taxpayer representatives, and we sponsor TAX-LITC--the listserve for Low Income Taxpayer Clinics.
The Committee plays an active role in adding an informed voice in both the day-to-day administration of the tax laws and the broad substantive law and procedure issues that affect our nation's low-income taxpayers. In terms of preparing comments to Congress and to the Internal Revenue Service, we are among the most active committees of the Tax Section.
To learn more about our projects and activities, check out the links on this webpage. If you have any suggestions about work that the Committee should be involved in or about this web page, or if you would like to participate, please contact me. I hope I will get a chance to meet you at one of our Section meetings or LITR workshops.
Thank you for visiting our webpage.
