Section of Real Property, Trust and Estate Law:
Ground Leasing Committee

Who We Are

We are a 110+ member strong Committee within the Leasing Group of the ABA-RPTE reaching for 125 members by mid-2010. Our mission is to provide a forum for Committee members to share ideas related to the special features of ground leasing and to assist all other Leasing Group members to understand and deal with ground leases. Our Committee members come from large and small private firms in the United States and Canada, developers, tenants, lenders, title companies, and academia. "All helping one, and one helping all." Look at our Committee Directory a few boxes below on this page.

Please join our Committee if you are not already a member.

We are less than two years old and we're looking for members who have interest, experience or both in the area of Ground Leasing. Please join!

More About Us

Our Committee was formed about a year ago to provide a forum for attorneys who are interested in ground leasing of real property, we are gathering additional ideas and projects for implementation in 2009. We have compiled a bibliography of ground leasing resources and want to add topical articles written by Committee members for inclusion in our bibliography and for posting on this Web Site itself.

If you have any interest in the area or have any ideas that would make this Committee the best RPTE Committee ever, please email them to Ira Meislik at imeislik@meislik.com or to Philip Wong at philwong@comcast.net.

If you want to be listed as a resource for speaking before trade groups, industry groups, and professional groups in the area of Ground Leasing, send your name along to us. We're compiling a list of Committee Members who want to get exposure in this way.

UPCOMING COMMITTEE PROGRAMS

WHO GETS HURT WHEN A GROUND LEASE PARTY GOES BANKRUPT? What are the effects of bankruptcy on Landlords, Tenants, Subtenants, and Lenders in a typical ground lease situation? On November 12, Professor Marshall Tracht will cover the fundamentals, focusing on what can be done to preserve the benefit of each other's bargain if one or more of the Landlord, Tenant or Lender find themselves in bankruptcy.
