WELCOME TO THE ABA RETAIL LEASING COMMITTEE

The RETAIL LEASING COMMITTEE is one of the fastest growing committees in the ABA Real Property Section. Its membership has a national reach and is comprised of transactional and litigation attorneys, in-house counsel and legal educators.

The Committee is devoted to the review and discussion of issues unique to retail leasing. It also serves as a marketing and client development forum for its members.

NUTS AND BOLTS OF RETAIL LEASES; Assignment and Subletting

The Retail Leasing Committee will hold its next call in the series, "The Nuts and Bolts of Retail Leases." The subject of the call will be "Assignment and Subletting."

The "Nuts and Bolts of Retail Leases" is a bi-monthly conference call series designed to provide newly practicing lawyers, as well as those new to the retail leasing field, with a basic understanding of the provisions and concepts that are unique to retail leases. Over the course of the series, co-hosts will fully negotiate a retail lease, from a landlord's and tenant's perspective, so that attendees may gain an understanding of the relevant issues.

About Our Committee Leadership

MARIE A. MOORE is a partner in the New Orleans law firm of Sher Garner Cahill Richter Klein & Hilbert, L.L.C., where she practices in the areas of commercial leasing, real estate transactions, and general commercial law. Ms. Moore is a member of the Louisiana and Alabama Bar Associations. She served as a member of the Louisiana State Law Institute's Committee for Revision of the Louisiana Civil Code Articles on Lease and assisted in drafting the new Lease Code Articles that became effective on January 1, 2005. Ms. Moore is the New Orleans Vice President for the Louisiana District Council of the Urban Land Institute and is a member of the Silver Flight of the ULI's national Commercial & Retail Development Council. In addition, Ms. Moore is the co-founder and the inaugural President of New Orleans CREW (2002-2003). Ms. Moore is a member of ICSC and is frequently a speaker or workshop leader at ICSC Law Conferences. She is the Louisiana Contributor to State by State Guide To Commercial Real Estate Leases, Mark A. Senn, Editor, Aspen Publisher (last Edition 2004, revised Edition Pending). She is a member of the RPTE Section's Diversity and Corporate Sponsorship Committees and is an Associate Editor of Probate & Property.

Murphy McMillan, in the Birmingham office of Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz, PC, concentrates his practice in the areas of commercial real estate development, finance, leasing, acquisitions and dispositions transactions and on the acquisition, financing and development of private utilities. A significant portion of his practice is devoted to economic development through structuring alternative financing for retail developments and private water and sewer infrastructure projects. Mr. McMillan is an Associate Member of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) and is the Alabama/Mississippi Co-Chair of the ICSC Alliance Program (Retail Development through Public/Private Partnerships) and is member of the ICSC Alliance Advisory Group, which provides guidance and direction, on a national basis, to the ICSC Alliance Program.
