Who We Are

The Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Committee of the Individual Rights and Responsibilities Section works to protect and advance the rights of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) persons by educating the legal profession, by developing, implementing and disseminating policies supporting equal justice under law without regard to one's sexual orientation or gender identity, and by filing amicus curiae briefs. Awards

At the 2003 ABA Annual Meeting, the Committee on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity received the Section Committee Excellence Award, "For its exemplary leadership in advancing the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered persons, contributing vitally to American Bar Association civil and human rights policy, and furthering the Section's mission of providing leadership to the legal profession in protecting and advancing human rights, civil liberties, and social justice."
