Section of International Law:
Customs Law Committee

About the Committee

This committee is concerned with the full range of laws and regulations administered by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) in connection with the importation and exportation of merchandise. These laws and regulations relate to such things as:

? importer security filing (ISF) and entry eligibility requirements;

? classification, valuation, and country of origin marking of merchandise;

? Free Trade Agreements;

? duty preference programs (e.g., AGOA, ATPA, CBERA, and GSP);

? duty drawback;

? foreign trade zones;

? bonded warehouses;

? temporary imports;

? quotas;

? intellectual property rights (IPR) protection; and

? recordkeeping requirements.

It also includes the Customs aspects of the rules and regulations of some 40 federal agencies that are enforced by CBP. Other areas of focus for the Committee include voluntary programs that have been established by CBP, including C-TPAT, CSI, and the Importer Self-Assessment program, as well as CBP's compliance and enforcement initiatives and civil and criminal penalty developments. In addition, the Committee is involved with international harmonization efforts, and the comparative operations of Customs agencies in countries other than the United States.
