WIN has two primary objectives: networking and promoting women. Networking: WIN provides networking opportunities for women interested in international law in several ways. WIN is a means by which women in the Section can meet one another at Section and other ABA meetings and gather for social and business reasons. WIN helps newcomers make connections. Also, WIN provides a means for networking apart from Section meetings, including through occasional local gatherings of WIN members as well as through one-on-one contacts (e.g., a new lawyer in town can contact another WIN member for introductions to international business and law groups). WIN members seeking contacts and advice can work through WIN (using the WIN listserve) and through WIN leadership and other individual WIN members.
In short, WIN facilitates women meeting women to share an interest in international law and practice. Promoting women: WIN promotes women lawyers within the Section and generally in the practice of law. WIN can be a stepping stone and a support group for women in the Section. WIN helps women members of the Section get acquainted with the Section and find ways to get involved. Using the WIN Speakers Bureau and WIN networking, WIN regularly make proposals for programs at Section meetings based on suggestions and organizational efforts of WIN members and, importantly, providing opportunities for women speakers. Giving voice to women attorneys, WIN-sponsored programs cover a broad range of topics, including - but not limited to - issues particularly affecting women lawyers in the practice of law and international legal issues of particular interest to women. WIN helps women advance in the Section and in their careers.
"The Women's Interest Network has introduced me to women with similar professional challenges and goals. We help each other -- it's wonderful."
