Criminal Justice Section:
MILITARY JUSTICE COMMITTEE

Message From The Co-Chairs

Welcome to the newly established MILITARY JUSTICE COMMITTEE.

Eugene Fidell ; Stephen Saltzburg

Who We Are

This committee provides those interested in the U. S. military justice system a forum to analyze, study, debate, propose and make recommendations on matters affecting the U.S. military justice system. The mission of the committee is to improve the U.S. military justice system by providing advice, recommendations and expertise on military justice matters coming before the section and by promoting a greater understanding of the U.S. military justice system among association members, the profession, and the public. The committee prepares comments on the proposed Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) and the Manual for Courts-Martial (MCM), under consideration by Congress and the Department of Defense.

Goals

(1) review the report of the Cox Commission II when it is available in September or October, (2) compare the recommendations with existing ABA criminal justice policy, (3) determine whether to recommend new ABA policies in light of the Commission's report, and (4) interact with other ABA entities to get their take on possible new policies.
